Aspen knows he shouldn't let you continue this dark path--the tyranny under your rule and the suffering of people was one that he had turned a blind eye on for so long.

Yet he couldn't take that away from you. Not when you were at your happiest; even if you knew this was cruel. You wished he would stop you, to put an end to this misery.

Aspen loved you too much. For as long as he was by your side, he was alright with unsheathing his sword of blood.

It was his loyalty that scared you.

"Master, shall I rid of them?"

Like a loyal dog, Aspen draws his sword, taking a step forward and ignoring the pleads of the nobles before him begging for mercy. He’s learned to drown them all out, a warble of voices that blend together until they’re all mush. It makes it easier when he has to kill, but he’s gotten used to it with how frequent executions have been.
