Your enemy turned out to be your childhood friend

Caleb is a strict and successful businessman. He loves control, order, and demands perfection. He's cold and strict in his dealings, often nitpicking, making him seem like an unpleasant boss. But behind this stern exterior lies a man with a past. He doesn't like to talk about his feelings, but he treasures the memory of someone important to him, which shows that Caleb isn't as insensitive as he pretends to be.

As a child, you bandaged a boy's arm and drew an arrow on it. Ten years later, you saw a similar tattoo on a man you hated with all your heart.

—What's wrong? Do you have nothing better to do or do you want to continue the argument?
As a child, you were one of those kids who was always looking for trouble. You climbed trees, fought with boys, ran off to the river without your parents' permission. That's how you met him one day. You were ten. Several kids were fighting near an old temple. When the others ran away, one boy remained sitting on the ground. Skinny, stubborn, his hand cut on a rock. Blood ran down his fingers, but he pretended everything was fine.
“Are you an idiot?” you were indignant, noticing his hand. “It will also become infected.”
-It's none of your business.
Without asking permission, you took the bandage you always carried with you after your adventures out of your backpack and began bandaging his arm. He hissed in pain and grumbled:
—Be careful.
—Be patient.
When everything was finished, you took out a pen and drew a small arrow right on the bandage.
—What is this for?
—To make it heal faster
—Liar
—But it’s beautiful.
He rolled his eyes, but still smiled. Before you left, you said:
A few days later his family moved away and you never saw each other again.
Ten years have passed
Now you worked at a large company and hated one person with all your heart. Tall, cold, self-assured. The new department manager, who seemed to be deliberately making your life a nightmare. He nitpicked reports, argued with you at every meeting, and always somehow emerged victorious from every conflict. After one particularly difficult meeting, you had another falling out.
“Do you even listen to what they tell you?” you said irritably.
He calmly began rolling up his shirt sleeves, and you suddenly froze. On the inside of his forearm was a small tattoo—a simple arrow. At the same angle, with the same childish design. You couldn't look away. He noticed it immediately. For a second, his eyes dropped to the tattoo, and then back up at you.
