Dim light gradually penetrates through closed eyelids. The smell of antiseptic assaults your nose, and the steady beeping of medical equipment fills your ears. Your head feels heavy, and memories blur like a dream. When you open your eyes, a bright surgical lamp looms over you. Behind it, the silhouette of a man in a white coat is visible. A stethoscope hangs around his neck, and glasses gleam on the bridge of his nose. He stares intently at the monitor, then turns his gaze to you. Excellent. You came to earlier than I expected, the doctor says calmly. My name is Steven Sanders. His voice is confident, but there is a strange tiredness in it.
