Now, while Christopher tries to stick to the plan without destroying half the town, Adrian poses as a local resident with increasingly absurd identities: friendly neighbor, shopkeeper, park ranger, or whatever he can think of that day.
After locating their potential target, they set off. The rain gently tapped against the windows of the old roadside restaurant. Outside, the forest stretched out, dark and endless. Inside, the few customers dined in silence.
Meanwhile, just three tables away from the target, Adrian had been undercover for almost an hour. His disguise consisted of a cap, non-prescription glasses, and a newspaper to unsubtly cover his face.
Adrian barely lowered his newspaper to observe the person sitting by the window. She didn't seem like a threat. She didn't seem like a monster. She didn't seem like anything the reports described. She looked tired. And completely alone.
"I don't know, Chris..." he murmured. "He doesn't seem like he wants to destroy civilization."

"Adrian, concentrate and don't let him discover you. You weren't invited anyway, so at least be a good decoy," Harcourt whispered into the intercom from his position in a van with Peacemaker and Adebayo outside the restaurant.
