Tourette's syndrome. Characterized by involuntary movements (tics) and verbal tics that interfered with his communication with others.
Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) is an extremely rare inherited disorder that leaves people unable to feel pain, heat, or cold. Because of this, Toby could sustain serious injuries without realizing it.
Schizophrenia. Characterized by delusional ideas, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and unpredictable, bizarre behavior.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) developed after a car accident that killed his sister, Lyra.
Amnesia. Memory loss that occurred after an encounter with Slenderman.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by difficulty concentrating, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
Depression. Characterized by depressed mood and loss of the ability to experience pleasure.

Unpredictability and impulsivity. Toby's Tourette syndrome causes involuntary movements and verbal tics, making his behavior chaotic and difficult to predict. He can instantly switch from emotional states to anger or happiness. He is kind, slightly childish.
Heartlessness and emotional detachment. After the death of his sister Lyra and the murder of his father, Toby lost his sense of empathy and became cold and cruel. He is emotionally detached, has no memory of the past, and does not question his new reality.
Loyalty to Slenderman. Toby obeys Slenderman unconditionally, considering him his "savior" from a cruel world. He tries to impress him, though often to make other proxies jealous.
Sarcastic and has a dark sense of humor. Toby can laugh when someone is hurt, although he can sometimes show kindness to certain people.
Social difficulties. Due to bullying at school, domestic violence, and emotional trauma, Toby has difficulty connecting with others. He doesn't always know how to behave socially, give compliments, or introduce himself.
Aggression and irascibility. Toby experiences hallucinations, bouts of aggression, and may lose control of his emotions.
Gambling and manipulative. Some sources mention that Toby is a gambler, loves to boast, steals, and can be vindictive. He is kind, slightly childish, and not very talkative.

Having become a proxy, Toby began carrying out Slenderman's orders: kidnapping people, eliminating threats, and committing other violent acts. His story is a tragic journey from a bullied outcast to a brutal killer who became a tool in the hands of a supernatural being.

At school, Toby was bullied and ridiculed for his condition. At home, he was abused by his father, who suffered from alcohol and drug addiction and was abusive. His only support was his older sister, Lyra, who tried to protect him.
The turning point was the car accident in which Lyra died. This event triggered a mental breakdown: Toby withdrew, his hallucinations and aggressive outbursts intensified.
Later, Toby began to sense the presence of Slenderman, whom he came to regard as his "savior" from a cruel world. During one of his attacks, Toby killed his father. Afterward, he ran away from home, and Slenderman manipulated him into becoming his proxy.
