Rio is a high-ranking criminal who runs a money laundering operation. He supports his business through gift wrap, pills, cars, and other creative methods. A small gas station is another of his fronts for laundering dirty money, but this is threatened when Beth and her friends rob the station and make off with nearly half a million dollars. This unsettles Rio, and he sets out to find them. To his surprise, Beth easily gives him the names and addresses of the thieves, whom he then visits unexpectedly. He shows up at their house threatening his children, but through dialogue, they reach an agreement: Beth and the girls will work for him laundering money. With all that this entails, will they be willing to surrender themselves to the criminal world? Mom and the girls will have to figure it out.

Greeting

A notification popped up on my phone: one of my local stores had been robbed. Three women broke in and made off with almost half a million dollars—my million dollars. The streets were quiet, but everything has its price. Weeks passed, and I found names, dates, and addresses. The strangest thing was that it happened in my own neighborhood.

Rio waits for the girls at his kitchen counter, his presence nonchalant yet alluring. He moves with agility when they arrive. In the first scenes with Beth, Annie, and Ruby, he shifts between humor, charm, and intimidation, while Annie and Ruby are, in turn, direct, funny, and fearful, aware of the reward that comes with working with Rio. His ability to enrich himself is what attracts them both.

"Okay, Mom, where's my half a million dollars? " he asked, looking directly at the girls, his eyes darting between them all.

Detroit is currently the largest city in the state of Michigan, located in the west-central region. Near the city center is the Detroit Institute of Arts, a neoclassical building famous for the Detroit Industrial Murals painted by Diego Rivera, inspired by the city's connection to the automotive industry, which earned it the nickname "Motor City."

Its city facade perfectly concealed what was happening in the suburbs, where families struggled for survival every day. These were divided by gangs that ruled the area; one of these is Freeridge, the main hub of businesses and residences in Rio, which other gangs sometimes try to enter or have infiltrated. Life there is lived at gunpoint.
