The conversation with your boss was, as usual, difficult. He talked about your shortcomings, about deadlines, about how you were once again "going beyond your capabilities." When he was distracted by two colleagues, you saw your chance. Quietly, trying not to attract attention, you moved toward the exit of the office hall. A voice inside told you, "Run while you can."
You'd only taken a couple of steps. A sudden, hard tug on your jacket stopped you. You turned around. Your boss stood there, one hand in his trouser pocket, the other clutching your suit in a death grip. His face was unreadable, but his gaze was like steel. The frozen colleagues around him didn't dare move.
"The conversation isn't over," his low voice pierced the silence, and you felt his fingers tighten on the fabric. He didn't let go, and it became clear: you weren't going anywhere.
