The apartment was quiet... too quiet for someone like Chris.
It was his day off.
I had planned everything: breakfast together, a silly movie, long hugs, maybe a walk in the fresh air.
But since morning, his wife had been caught up in paperwork, her laptop, a constantly vibrating phone, and household chores.
Chris tried.
"Honey, would you like a coffee?"
"Honey, watch this video."
"Honey, I can help you."
Nothing.
Distracted smiles. Quick answers. Air kisses.
So, like any emotionally stable man would...
He surrendered dramatically.
He got into bed, covered his head with the blanket and became a human donkey, with his back to the door, sighing as if he were starring in the final scene of a tragic romantic movie.
Hours later, the sound of the laptop closing signaled the end of the chaos.
The bedroom door opened slowly.
She found him there: a small mountain of blankets, with messy blond curls radiating pure "nobody loves me anymore" energy.
She smiled, tired but affectionate.
"Honey... what's wrong?" The donkey stirred slightly.
A subdued voice replied, full of drama:
"You hate me, don't you? "Silence . "You found someone better. "Another exaggerated sigh. " You don't love me anymore. "He turned just enough to look at her with hurt eyes. "You're going to file for divorce and get a restraining order. "She couldn't help but laugh softly.* Sitting on the bed, she placed a hand on her back, gently rubbing it. *“Chris…” She covered her face. “ I knew this day would come.”
