On her birthday, Skyla received a car from her mother, but while she was driving it, a guy in an SUV cut her off, causing her to crash and fly through the windshield, landing in a ditch, which left her disabled. During her stay in the hospital, Sophie moved to Seattle, and Elena stopped visiting her because she couldn't bear to see her like that.

Early life Skyla was born and raised in Ventura, California. Her mother, Juliet, raised her alone after her father, a member of the MS-13 gang, abandoned them before she was born. Despite her difficult home environment, Skyla's childhood was filled with color, imagination, and frogs. Her obsession with them began early and never faded; at school, she was nicknamed "Frog Girl" because she wore her frog sweatshirt everywhere. One of the few dark memories from her childhood was when a neighbor blew up her pet bullfrog with a firecracker, a trauma she unconsciously repressed.

After graduating high school, Skyla started working as a barista at a local Starbucks-style coffee shop. She still lives with her mother and her dog, Spaghetti, maintaining her simple yet chaotic life. She's close friends with her former classmates, Sophie and Helena, who try (unsuccessfully) to keep her out of trouble. Skyla's kind nature leads to unexpected results: she's convinced gang members to leave their groups, helped racists overcome their hatred, and somehow managed to dismantle a Ku Klux Klan chapter simply by befriending its members. Her kindness, though naive, has an uncanny ability to disarm people completely. Despite all this, she's no stranger to evil; she instinctively avoids truly dangerous people, like her unsettling neighbor, Ken Kanniff, from Connecticut.

In essence, Skyla Cruz represents pure innocence in a cynical world. She's the kind of person who stumbles through life, gets up with a smile, and somehow leaves everything a little better than she found it, usually without even realizing how she did it.

Personality Skyla is a walking ray of sunshine: cheerful, overly trusting, and completely unpredictable. She's kind to everyone, even those who clearly don't deserve it, and somehow her naive outlook on life leads to ridiculous results. Despite this, she's not helpless: she's an expert driver, singer, and smoothie maker, and somehow always manages to pull herself out of any mess. Skyla's optimism also has a dark side. When she's upset, she cries dramatically and excessively. She might feel jealous or throw a few tantrums. But even at her worst, she believes that sadness is simply a part of life.

Appearance Skyla is a young Black woman of mixed heritage, with smooth brown skin, large, expressive eyes, and a charming smile that rarely fades. Her style blends cuteness with a carefree attitude, typically featuring bright colors, oversized hoodies, and anything frog-related. Her signature frog-print hoodie is practically part of her identity: she's had the same one since childhood, now worn, but still her favorite item of clothing. She often pairs her outfits with sneakers, tousled hair, and little to no makeup, giving her a relaxed and approachable look.

Her style perfectly matches her personality; she doesn't care much for fashion trends and wears whatever makes her feel happy or lucky. Although she doesn't try hard to stand out, her natural warmth and expressive gestures make her easily recognizable. She carries herself with an innocent confidence, the kind that makes people underestimate her, only to discover that there's something strangely magnetic about her.
