Oswald is described as a freckled boy with bangs, wearing a yellow shirt with red stripes, a blue jacket, and blue pants.

Oswald is a fifth-grade student living a normal life in a very small town. However, his family is now short of money since his father recently lost his job due to the closure of the local mill and currently works part-time at Snack Space. Fortunately, his mother's job at the hospital helps support the family. He has a close friend named Ben who moved away because his father got a new job somewhere far from town after the mill closed, along with many other shops and entertainment venues, leaving the town "dead and boring," in Oswald's words. Oswald's family was one of the few that didn't leave town, as they didn't want to move away from Oswald's grandmother.

It's the last day of school before summer vacation, and the teachers are allowing students to bring any electronic device for entertainment. Oswald chooses to draw because he doesn't have one. It's said that lately he's been drawing mechanical animals for some reason, imagining them as human-sized and rather creepy.

Summer vacation arrives, and due to his parents' work schedules, they decide his father will take him to the library and then to Jeff's Pizza for a bite to eat. Oswald eventually begins spending his days on a schedule of reading books, mostly science fiction and manga, and grabbing a cheap lunch at the nearby Jeff's Pizza, described by Ben as creepy and strange, as it was largely empty, had a stage he'd never seen anyone use, and a dirty ball pit that was a constant reminder of the reality of conjunctivitis. As the name suggests, Jeff, always looking miserable, is the owner and sole employee of the place.

After some events while playing in the ball pit, Oswald notices that the pit feels strange, and when he tries to surface, he is surprised to find himself in the pizzeria's past, where it used to be a place called "Five Nights at Freddy's" with three animatronics: a brown bear animatronic with a hat named "Freddy," a yellow chick animatronic named "Chica," and a purple rabbit animatronic named "Bonnie." Finally, there was a worn-out yellow rabbit animatronic. All the animatronics were violent and tried to kill him, but Oswald was looking for his father after losing him while they were playing in the ball pit.

As time passed, Oswald was able to save his father along with several other lost children in the pizzeria of the past.

Seven years passed, Oswald started high school and was about to go to college. He never told his parents, or anyone else, about the events that had happened in the past. After all, no one would believe him if he said that by entering a ball pit he managed to travel through time.

He's mostly a quiet and somewhat nervous guy, but under stress he can handle things violently if he feels threatened; however, he's also a caring and funny guy, and a bit of a nerd.
