Eragon is a powerful Rider, even more so after his transformation. It's likely that Eragon was a prodigy among the Riders; proof of this is that he can cast spells instinctively, and he learns things in less than a year that would have taken others decades. In particular, Eragon specializes in creating fire, improvising spells, swordsmanship, and wizard duels.

Driven by his curiosity and desire to learn, Eragon learns quickly. When he learns to read, he becomes an avid reader. This passion intensifies during his time in Ellesmera, thanks to the large library at his disposal.

Eragon is a formidable swordsman. Brom notes his rare and natural talent with the sword, noting his remarkable progress in just a few months, developing a swift and elegant style that allows him to go toe-to-toe with much more experienced opponents. He even defeated Brom in a practice match and put up a good fight against Murtagh, who had spent years honing his skills. Before his transformation, he was able to hold his own against Arya, whose duel, according to Fredric, was incredible, even though Eragon lost.

After the blood oath and with his skills enhanced, Eragon becomes a better swordsman than most humans, dwarves, and some elves. However, he still struggles against much more skilled and experienced opponents, such as Arya and Murtagh, but with Glaedr's guidance, he overcomes some of his weaknesses as a swordsman by learning to observe his opponent closely and gather information to gain the upper hand. Thus, Eragon is able to face Arya and defeat Murtagh.

He is also a skilled archer and hunter, with unerring aim and the ability to track and wait for prey for hours. He knows the Spine like the back of his hand and can survive there for several days when hunting for meat to feed his family. According to Roran, Eragon is a better mountaineer and hunter than he is.

With a strong build, scaly and tough skin of a glossy dark blue color, Saphira is a dragon with powerful claws and legs with dangerous sharp claws capable of tearing through the toughest armor.

Its most striking feature is its large, intense blue eyes, reflecting its intelligence, above a long snout full of large, sharp, ivory-white teeth that it uses to tear apart its enemies and prey.

At the end of its neck emerge the immense wings that allow it to rise and fly great distances or to propel itself through the water.

At the end of its body grows a large tail that it uses as a rudder in its maneuvers and as a powerful mace in battles, covered with spikes that reach the head, a line of spikes runs along the entire spine of the animal from the head to the tail, leaving a gap at the birth of the wings.

In addition to her magnificent physical attributes, she possesses a powerful but mysterious magic that is gradually revealed and about which little is known, and is even an enigma to Saphira herself.

Her personality has been evolving and growing since she was born, and along with Eragon, she has become more mature and wise.

Saphira, like all members of her race, possesses a very deep and intricate personality, incomprehensible to most humans. Intelligent, proud, noble, and dignified, she is loyal and shares a deep friendship with her rider, Eragon, though she is ruthless and cold towards her enemies.

It has a mysterious and hidden side that is gradually revealed as its unknown powers.

Saphira, since she was born, has been loyal to Eragon and his friends and has evolved into a beautiful blue dragon who would accompany her rider to the cruellest of battles.

Bond with Eragon: She shares a deep telepathic and emotional connection with her rider. She acts as his advisor, protector, and almost like an older sister, guiding him throughout his journey. Personality: She is highly intelligent, proud, and bold. She often provides the mature and calculating perspective that Eragon lacks, though she can also be playful and somewhat vain. Abilities: She possesses immense strength and is a master of combat and aerial acrobatics. Her breath is a blaze of blue fire.

Physical and Sensory Powers: Elven Strength and Speed: After receiving the blessing in the Agaetí Blödhren (the Blood Oath), his body was transformed into a hybrid of human and elf. He can easily overpower any average human in combat and withstand critical hits. Heightened Senses: His sight, hearing, and smell were drastically enhanced, allowing him to see clearly both in the dark (night vision) and at great distances. 2. Magic and Grammar: Use of the Ancient Language: He can channel energy to cast spells in the elven tongue (the language of magic), bending reality to his will. Healing: He has the ability to heal serious physical wounds or illnesses (both his own and others'), provided he has the necessary energy to do so. Mental and Physical Protection: Eragon employs multiple magical protections to safeguard his mind against intruders and his body against attacks and poisons. 3. Combat and Weaponry: Sword Prodigy: Initially trained by Brom and honed by the elves, he is a lethal swordsman. Wielder of Zar'roc: He fought much of his journey with his master's famed sword before wielding his own rider's blade called Brisingr (meaning Fire in the Ancient Tongue, capable of magically igniting upon speaking his name). 4. Bond with the Dragon (Saphira): Telepathic Connection: He shares an unbreakable bond with Saphira. They can communicate through their minds regardless of distance and sense each other's emotions. Energy Reserve: As a Rider, he can draw or store energy directly from Saphira (or from energy-encrusted gems) to cast spells that would require a mortal effort for an ordinary mage.

Two weeks of sailing later, the group led by Eragon and Saphira sighted a solitary peak overlooking the eastern plains. After some discussion, they all decided that this would be the ideal location to build a new home for the dragons and a school for dragon riders. Eragon led the expedition to the new site, discovering ancient tunnels dug by dwarves and inscriptions bearing the name Gor Narrveln. Once settled at the foot of the peak, they began planning, excavating, and constructing what would become a city. As the leader, it was his responsibility to handle all the logistical details, from provisions to mediating between Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Urgals.

After Nasuada's celebration in Arya's honor, Eragon and Saphira departed for Vroengard in search of the remaining eggs and Eldunarí in the Vault of Souls. Before arriving, he traveled to the Urgal lands in the Vertebrates, where he proposed a way to prevent young people from having to cause trouble by proving their strength through competitions. He also suggested including the Urgals and the dwarves in the pact (he had spoken with Orik about this before leaving Ilrea). Both species agreed.

After leaving Vroengard, Eragon and Saphira traveled to Ellesmera, where Roran, Katrina, Ismira, and Arya were waiting for them. They stayed there while Blodgarm and several elves escorted the Eldunarí to the port from where they would sail east. For several weeks, Eragon researched how to modify the Riders' oath. Once he had it ready, he used the power of Saphira and the Eldunarí to alter the oath, including the dwarves and Urgals. During the celebration Arya held afterward, Eragon found Sloan and restored his sight. He also changed the curse on Sloan so that he could see Katrina and Ismira but could not approach or communicate with them, Roran, or any of their descendants.

The next morning they set off for the port where the ship that would take Eragon and Saphira east was waiting. When they arrived in Hedarth, he was surprised to see Orik waiting to bid him farewell with a feast. After saying goodbye to his friend, he went with Saphira, Arya, Fírnen, and Roran to where the ship was. There he saw the dream he had had months before come true: two people boarding a ship while a third watched them depart and let out a cry of anguish. Once on the ship, he begged Arya to stay with him until the bend in the river. When she left, both Eragon and Saphira were saddened but hopeful about what awaited them beyond Alagaësia.

The following months were filled with activity for Eragon and Saphira. Nasuada sent them to various cities to use the name of the ancient language to undo any spells Galbatorix had cast on structures and people. When they arrived in Teirm, they had to intervene because the governor wanted to make the city an independent state. Eragon divided his time between the missions Nasuada sent him on with Saphira: helping Blodgarm and the elven sorcerers (who had ceased to be his guard) assist the Eldunarí they had expelled from Galbatorix's palace, continuing the exploration and clearing of the castle where they found many mysterious artifacts, and helping Jeod organize all the writings and books in Galbatorix's library. During this time, Eragon told Jeod his story and gave him permission to include what he had said in the Domia Abr Wyrda. During that time, he and Saphira thought about where they would raise the dragons and train the riders. He finally realized that the best place to raise the dragons would be outside of Alagaesia.

Six months after the fall of the Empire, Eragon received a letter from Arya. She told him to wait for her near the River Ramr to meet her. On the day of the meeting, Eragon and Saphira were surprised to see Arya riding a green dragon. There, he learned that the elf was not only a rider, but had also been named queen in succession to Islanzadi.

Once they left the castle (which was about to collapse), Eragon saw Murtagh and Thorn leaving. They followed them to a bend in the River Ramr. There, he knew Murtagh had to go, for he and Thorn needed to heal from what they had suffered. Eragon told him about the contents of the Vault of Souls and that he and Saphira had to find a safe place for the eggs. Then he said goodbye to his brother, and together with Saphira, he watched him and Thorn depart.

When they returned to Uru'baen, Eragon dedicated himself to rebuilding the city's defenses, as well as helping to clean up and evacuate everyone, since many people were falling ill due to the toxins released by the explosion. That afternoon, he attended a meeting to decide who would assume the throne of the human kingdom, as it was necessary for someone to take power. To his surprise, he realized he was a candidate, but he declined, knowing he wasn't ready for such a responsibility, and besides, another Rider wouldn't be a suitable choice. Eragon gave his support to Nasuada and was overjoyed when she was named queen.

When Eragon arrived at the camp, he asked Blodgarm to gather Roran, Arya, Orik, Islanzadi, Jormundur, and Orrin nearby. Once assembled, Eragon revealed the secret of the Eldunarí and outlined the Varden's attack plan: they would launch a surprise attack before dawn, while the elven army's sorcerers created another copy of Eragon and Saphira to deceive Murtagh and Thorn. Meanwhile, the real Eragon and Saphira, along with Arya, Elva, Blodgarm, and the sorcerer guard, would stealthily enter the castle.

The plan was successful; they managed to enter the castle, although due to the spells that Galbatorix had put in place, they could not maintain the invisibility spell inside the city.

After passing through the traps, they reached the throne room. Before entering, Blodgarm and the elven sorcerers were captured and taken elsewhere. When they arrived before Galbatorix, he told them that everything they were doing was useless, as he had already learned the name of the ancient language. Eragon realized that this was what the Ra'zac had wanted to tell him before dying. Together with the Eldunarí, he tried to attack him, but the king had brought two children to use as shields. When Murtagh and Thorn arrived, Galbatorix made them duel, and he was quite surprised when he realized that Eragon was Brom's son, making him and Murtagh half-brothers.

During the duel, Eragon realized that Murtagh was fighting with great intensity. To defeat him, he put Glaedr's advice into practice by observing his opponent. With this, he managed to pierce Murtagh's abdomen, though he was also wounded. Murtagh then whispered that he would help him. Eragon barely had time to get into a fighting stance when Murtagh used the name from the ancient language to break through a large part of Galbatorix's defenses, but the king knocked Murtagh unconscious and stopped everyone with a spell.

After Nasuada's kidnapping, Arya organized a meeting at Orik's pavilion to decide who would lead the Varden. Despite King Orrin's objections, Eragon was chosen as leader, since everyone would follow him and because Nasuada had named him her successor should anything happen to her. Seeing himself in this position and knowing he lacked the power to confront Galbatorix, Eragon desperately searched for a solution. It was then that he found a clue in the Domia Abr Wyrda (with Solembum's help) regarding the Rock of Kuthian. Apparently, it was located in Vroengard, and for some reason, every time he mentioned it to someone, that person forgot it shortly afterward. Intrigued, Eragon, Saphira, and Glaedr set off for Vroengard.

During their journey, they had to cross a powerful storm at sea. Eragon had to cast spells to prevent himself, Saphira, and Glaedr from freezing, as well as one to renew the breathable air. Thanks to the speed Saphira reached on the winds, they were able to ascend much higher than the Beor, where they could see the stars clearly and realize, to their surprise, that their world was round and not flat as they had believed.

After resting a while, Eragon, Saphira, and Glaedr headed to Kuthian Rock, where they discovered that to enter they had to speak their true names. Eragon and Saphira spent several days searching for theirs, and after much deliberation, they finally found their true names. Speaking their names before the rock revealed a hidden door leading to a chamber several kilometers beneath the island. There they encountered a creature called Cuaroc and the Eldunarí of many dragons, who told them about the Vault of Souls, the dragons' last stand against Galbatorix to keep their kind alive. They also revealed that it was these Eldunarí who had intervened in Saphira's egg's journey, showing her Arya hidden in Gil'lead.

After Dras-Leona was taken, Eragon asked Nasuada to outlaw slavery in the city. She granted his request, and Eragon went to free all the slaves. He attended Wyrden's funeral, reprimanded Elva for not helping them, and then drank elven liquor with Arya. At that moment, Murtagh and Thorn, along with a group of soldiers, attacked the Varden camp. Eragon, Saphira, and Arya fought their way to Nasuada's tent, but they were too late; Murtagh had already entered and kidnapped her. With Glaedr's help, Eragon, Saphira, and Arya pursued them, but Thorn managed to evade their attacks.

Eragon was with Nasuada when Grimr Halfpaw met with her to discuss the alliance with the cat-men. That night, Elain went into labor, and Eragon waited outside her tent with the men of Carvahall. When he learned that the baby had a cleft lip, he decided to cure her. He took her to his tent, and with Saphira's help, they spent 24 hours performing a spell, since the baby had been born without a lip and had to create one from scratch. This left him exhausted, but he earned the respect of the Varden (especially the elven sorcerers, as children are very important to them), as well as Elva's, who kept a close eye on him to prevent him from making a mistake while helping a baby (again).

The days passed as they marched toward Dras-Leona. Eragon asked Arya to help him with his sword training, as he felt he was losing practice fighting the soldiers. Arya defeated him several times because she knew the boy's moves. During his training, Glaedr emerged from mourning the loss of Oromis and began to help him with combat, both sword fighting and mental training.

Eragon's training also enhanced his fighting skills. He developed an intense rivalry with an elf named Vanir, and their mutual dislike played a role in their training sessions. Eragon was defeated several times, sometimes suffering pain from the scar on his back.

Tutored by Oromis, Eragon composed a poem to present at the Blood Oath Celebration, an elven tradition commemorating the pact between elves and dragons. During the festivities, Eragon was finally healed of his wound, a magical gift from the dragons, and gained the characteristics and abilities of an elf, making his training easier. He even managed to defeat Vanir (with whom he reconciled), but his relationship with Arya became strained, as he approached her and looked at her in a way considered "undesirable" by the elves during the Blood Oath celebration. However, his relationship with Saphira eventually grew closer, as Saphira was also rejected.

Eragon decided to accept the advice of the Mourning Sage and, accompanied by Orik and Arya, traveled north through eastern Alagaësia to Ellesmera to complete his training as a Rider. Before leaving, King Hrotgar named Eragon an adopted member of Clan Ingietum, a decision Eragon accepted despite its controversy among the dwarves. During his travels through the dwarven cities, he encountered Clan Az Swelden Rak Anhuin, who harbored animosity toward Riders and swore eternal hatred for Eragon and Clan Ingietum for adopting him. After several weeks of travel, they arrived in the capital of the elven kingdom: Ellesmera. There, he met Queen Islanzadi and the enigmatic raven Blagden, who revealed several clues about Eragon's past and future. Eragon was surprised to learn that Arya was Islanzadi's daughter, and therefore, a princess.

The training of a rider

Eragon's lessons with Oromis were frustrating at first, but gradually, Eragon learned what it meant to be a true Rider. Guided by his principles and making responsible decisions, he came to understand that his "training" would last a lifetime. He learned, among other things, history, art, and politics. His knowledge of magic and the Ancient Language expanded greatly, and he also learned more about the Ra'zac, with whom he still had unfinished business.

The story begins when he is 15 years old, but now he is 20.

When Eragon returns to Du Weldenvarden to complete his training, he questions Oromis about why he hadn't told him that Morzan was his father. Oromis tells him that Brom, not Morzan, is his father. He then recounts Brom's entire story, from his early days as a rider to his role as the founder of the Varden and the bane of the Forsworn, and his encounter with Eragon's mother, Selena. After hearing the story, Eragon is surprised when Saphira tells him that Brom had left a message for him while he was unconscious after the Urgal ambush. When Eragon sees the message Brom left him, he feels much better. Oromis then gives him the Fairth that Brom had made of Selena.

Once that matter was settled, Eragon went to Rhunön to ask her for a sword to replace Zar'roc. She resisted, but Eragon convinced her when he told her that the sword she forged could be the one that would finish off Galbatorix. The blacksmith told him that even if he found a way to evade his oath, a special metal was needed to make a dragon rider's sword that she hadn't found in years.

Eragon then remembers Solembum's advice and goes with Saphira to the Menoa tree, asking it to release the metal hidden deep within its roots. The tree doesn't listen, and in a fit of anger, Saphira burns one of the tree's roots, causing it to defend itself furiously. Eragon tries to convince the Menoa tree to give them the metal and let them go. The tree agrees, bringing the metal to the surface in exchange for Eragon doing an unspecified favor, and so Eragon gives the metal to Rhunön.

Rhünon's plan to evade his oath was to use Eragon with a spell to control his movements and thus avoid being directly involved in the sword-forging process. His plan worked, and he delivered a new sword to Eragon, who named it Brisingr. Upon hearing this name, the sword inexplicably burst into flames. According to Rhünon, it was the finest sword ever made.

A few days after the wedding, Nasuada assigned Eragon a mission. Taking advantage of his position as an adopted member of the dwarf clan Ingeitum, he was to go to Tronjheim as the Varden ambassador to ensure the election of a dwarf king who would aid the Varden in the war against Galbatorix. However, to prevent attacks from Galbatorix should he learn that Eragon was not among the Varden, Saphira was to remain at the camp and conduct reconnaissance flights using a magically created replica of Eragon. Eragon agreed, but on the condition that Saphira go to Farthen Dur once the new king was chosen. Afterward, they would return to Du Weldenvarden to ask their masters if they knew why Murtagh and Thorn gained power whenever they fought them. Nasuada agreed, and Eragon departed for Tronjheim the following day. When he arrived at the place where he was to meet Orik, he was surprised to learn that his friend had been named chief of Clan Ingeitum and could therefore be a candidate for king. Orik made Eragon promise to support whatever decisions he made as clan chief, whether he nominated himself for the kingship or supported another chief sympathetic to the Varden cause. The young man promised. For Eragon's safety during his stay in Tronjheim, Orik assigned him an escort, since the Az Swelden Rak Anhuin might take advantage of Saphira's absence to attack him.

Eragon was among the companions Orik could take to the debates between the clan chiefs. One day, when the meetings weren't progressing much, Eragon went to explore Tronjheim. He and his escort were cornered by dwarven mercenaries paid by Az Swelden Rak Anhuin. During the skirmish, one of Eragon's bodyguards was killed. With no way out, the boy had to break one of the dwarves' flameless lamps, which flew in a magical explosion and made the assassins flee.

Eragon, Saphira, Murtagh, and Arya crossed the Hadarac Desert, hurrying to reach Farthen Dûr, the dwarven mountains that sheltered the Varden, to save Arya. They were pursued by a small army of Kull. Before reaching Farthen Dûr, Murtagh, who had been against going with the Varden from the start, revealed that he was the son of Morzan, the first and last of the Forsworn. Kull's force compelled them to move, and Farthen Dûr opened to admit the group. Ahijad, leader of the Varden, imprisoned Murtagh when he learned of his lineage. Arya was treated for her wounds; Eragon and Saphira were welcomed in Tronjheim, the dwarven city of Farthen Dûr.

Eragon met both Ajihad and Hrothgar, the Dwarf King. He also encountered Angela and Solembum. Ajihad wished to send Eragon to Ellesmera to complete his training; thus, two wizards known as the Twins tested his magical abilities. The Twins were cruel to Eragon and intended to steal his knowledge of the Elder Speech. A fully healed Arya intervened and took it upon herself to test him by fighting him. Eragon, though defeated, passed the test in Arya's eyes. He began to fall in love with her.

The Varden respected and even revered Eragon. Shortly after arriving in Trojanheim, he was approached by an elderly woman with an orphaned girl, Elva, in her care. The woman asked Eragon to bless Elva, and he, in the Ancient Tongue, said: "Atra gülai un ilian tauthr ono un atra ono waíse skölir frá rauthr," which he thought meant: "May luck and happiness be with you and protect you from misfortune." Saphira gave the girl her special gift: a silver star, similar to Eragon's gedwëy ignasia, on her forehead. Saphira told Eragon that the girl would have a significant future.

While hunting in the Spine, Eragon found what appeared to be a smooth blue stone. At first, he tried to sell it, thinking he could buy enough meat to last him through the winter. Unfortunately, he had trouble negotiating with the butcher Sloan because the stone had been found in the Spine. So, he kept the "stone" for himself and was surprised when a female dragon hatched from the egg. The dragon touched his palm, leaving him with the Gedwëy Ignasia, the mark of the Dragon Riders.

Because any story or mention of the Dragon Rider era was outlawed in the Empire, Eragon raised his dragon in secret, torn between his joy at his new companion and his fear of what would happen if the Empire discovered what had transpired. Eventually, he decided to keep her and built her a treehouse. After consulting with Brom, the storyteller of Carvahall, about dragon names (without revealing anything about his own dragon), his dragon chose to name herself Saphira. For a time, he managed to keep her hidden, but as Saphira—and her appetite—continued to grow, he realized he could no longer keep her existence a secret.

Not long after, two menacing, hooded beings of immense power, the Ra'zac, arrive at Carvahall, searching for the dragon egg. Saphira, now able to communicate with her thoughts, forces Eragon to escape with her, while the Ra'zac destroy the farm and mortally wound Garrow. When Eragon returns, he finds the farm in ruins and his uncle dying. He tries to carry Garrow to Carvahall on Saphira's back, but eventually succumbs to exhaustion and collapses unconscious before reaching them. When he recovers days later, he learns of his uncle's death and resolves to hunt down the Ra'zac and seek revenge.

Eragon evolves from an impulsive and immature farm boy into a wise and powerful leader. His psychological arc is built upon four fundamental pillars: Curiosity and impulsiveness: Initially, he acts without thinking, making mistakes typical of his age, though always guided by a strong sense of loyalty. Deep loyalty: He is fiercely protective of his loved ones and his dragon, Saphira, with whom he shares an unbreakable bond. Sense of duty: He reluctantly accepts his destiny as a Dragon Rider, showing great compassion and taking on enormous responsibility. Determination: His mind becomes increasingly thoughtful and resourceful, especially after the disciplined training he receives from the elves and his dragon.
