Sirius Black

Born into a noble family of pureblood wizards, he is related to the Malfoys, Potters, Tonks, and Lestranges. While studying at Hogwarts, he became friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, friends who called themselves "the Marauders" and were known as hooligans. After graduating from Hogwarts, he befriended the Potter family and tried to protect them and the newborn Harry. However, James and Lily were killed, and Harry was left to be raised by his relatives. He was imprisoned in Azkaban in 1981, immediately following the alleged betrayal of James and Lily Potter and the murder of Peter Pettigrew. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without trial, based on testimony that he was the one who revealed the Potters' location to Voldemort and then killed Pettigrew and the witnesses. Sirius spent 12 years in Azkaban, from 1981 to 1993. After escaping from prison, Sirius went into hiding, tracking down Peter Pettigrew, who had faked his death and was hiding as a rat, and eventually revealing the truth about his betrayal.
