Hyrule

Once ruled by the goddess Hylia as an unnamed land in ancient times, it became established as the Kingdom of Hyrule by the descendants of her mortal incarnation. The sacred bloodline that was started by the Zelda of Skyward Sword would go on to become known as the Royal Family of Hyrule. At the northern center of Hyrule is seated Hyrule Castle (its government area), where the family reside, and a bustling town surrounded by a stone wall, populated mostly by the Hylians and a variety of shops. To the west of the kingdom can often be seen a desert, forests to the south and south-east and a mountain range to the east and north-east.

The kingdom has its own long and unique history with many wars and conflicts over the Triforce, deities, legendary relics, historical heroes and villains.[20][21] It is connected to a variety of different realms or universes via magical artifacts and portals, including but not limited to the Sacred Realm, the Twilight Realm, its own direct parallel world Lorule and, to a lesser extent, Termina. The story of the Sacred Realm and the Triforce would shape Hyrule's future in the centuries that followed its establishment, becoming the basis of its providence.[22] It is also home to a multitude of different races and tribes, each inhabiting a different part of the country and sometimes protecting its legendary relics and guarding its temples.[23]

Midna Part 3

Once Link has defeated Zant in battle, Midna is shocked to see that her curse is not lifted, which would enable her to regain her powers. Angered, she uses only a fraction of the power that the Fused Shadows hold to destroy Zant, and is utterly bewildered by their power.[26] With the help of her ancestors' magic, Midna transforms into a giant, spider-like beast with a large pole-arm weapon to break the pyramid-shaped barrier around Hyrule Castle, allowing the duo entry into the Castle hall where Ganondorf and Princess Zelda are located. Link, after a small confrontation between Midna and Ganondorf, successfully drives Ganondorf out of Zelda's body. However, because Ganondorf's spirit reappears, Midna chooses to sacrifice herself by using the Fused Shadows' power once again in an attempt to destroy Ganondorf. Before doing so, she warps Link and Princess Zelda out of the Castle before she transforms into the spider-like beast, fully intent on killing Ganondorf. Outside of the Castle, Link and Zelda witness an explosion coming from Hyrule Castle, destroying the castle itself, but it is soon revealed that Midna's sacrifice was in vain: shortly thereafter, Ganondorf is seen holding up the helmet part of the Fused Shadows that was Midna's trademark garment, breaking it in his hand to symbolize her defeat.

After Link, with assistance from Princess Zelda, defeats Ganondorf once and for all, the Light Spirits revive Midna and break the curse placed on her by Ganondorf's magic, allowing Midna to regain her true form. In a comical moment when Link first sees her true form, she is amused by his silence and asks, "Am I so beautiful that you've no words left?"[27]

Before returning to the Twilight Realm, Midna bids Link and Princess Zelda farewell in the Mirror Chamber and tells them to remember that there is always another world bound to the one that currently exists.[28] She then addresses the Hero of Twilight with "I... see you later." She sheds a single tear

however, that she wants the Fused Shadows for the benefit of herself and her world.

Upon collecting all Fused Shadows, Zant confronts Link and Midna in the Spring of the Spirit Lanayru and easily takes the Fused Shadows from them. He then tries to persuade Midna to join his side, but after she refuses, he holds her up in front of the Light Spirit Lanayru, who gravely injures Midna by overexposing her to its light. With Link now once again as a wolf and Midna nearing death, the hero takes her to Princess Zelda in Hyrule Castle.[18][19] The dying Midna, no longer caring for her sake, asks that Zelda tell Link how to break his curse since he is the only one who can defeat Zant.[20] As a last request, Midna pleads to the princess of Hyrule to inform Link where he can find the Mirror of Twilight.[21] Zelda, realizing who Midna really is and touched by her consideration of the world of light despite her injuries, chooses to revive the Twili by transferring her soul to Midna's body,[22][23] disappearing in the process. After seeing the selfless acts made by Link and Princess Zelda, Midna has a change of heart and vows to help save Hyrule from Zant.[13] The duo eventually arrive at Gerudo Desert, where Midna asks for Link's help in finding the Mirror of Twilight, their last potential link to Zant.[24]

Eventually, Midna and Link reach the Mirror Chamber and find that the Mirror of Twilight has been broken into four Mirror Shards, with only one of them remaining in the Mirror. After learning the locations of the remaining three Shards from the Sages, the pair find them and return to the Mirror Chamber to complete the Mirror, where the Sages reveal that Midna is the true Twilight Princess and ruler of the Twili race,[25] not Zelda, who had previously been defined as the Twilight Princess by Midna herself,[14] presumably to keep a cover on her identity. Zant, after usurping the throne from Midna, placed a curse on her that gave her the form she maintains for most of the game.

Midna

Princess Midna is one of the Twili, a race descended from wielders of powerful and evil magic who were banished to an alternate dimension by the Golden Goddesses Din, Farore, and Nayru after an event known as the Interloper War.[6][7] This alternate dimension, out of which the sublimated descendants could only exist as shadows, eventually became known as the Twilight Realm.[8]

Prior to the events of Twilight Princess, Zant, who is the enemy of the Twili, overthrew Midna from her throne and placed a curse on her, giving her the infamous imp form that she maintains for most of the game and depriving her of the magical powers that are granted to the leader of the Twili.[3][9] Midna, already in possession of a Fused Shadow, leaves the Twilight Realm and witnesses Link as a wolf being taken away by a Shadow Beast.[10] Knowing the Twili legend that the Hero would appear as a "divine beast," Midna follows Link to his prison cell in the Castle Town Sewers and tells him that she will help him escape if Link does exactly as he is told.[11] At first, she seems to be a strange, dark creature with an agenda of her own and little regard for Link,[12] but she ends up changing her attitude towards those who are willing to help her.[13] The pair eventually exit the sewers and go to a tower in Hyrule Castle to meet with Princess Zelda, whom Midna mockingly calls "Twilight Princess" and blames for Hyrule's current state.[14]

After the meeting with Zelda, Midna reminds Link that he must still save Ilia and the rest of the Ordon children that were kidnapped, saying that she will be happy to help the young hero if he acts like her "servant."[15] Once Link finds the first Fused Shadow in the Forest Temple, Midna reveals that was the item that she was looking for, but refuses to tell him their exact purpose or what she plans to do with them.[16] The power of the Fused Shadows can be used to destroy Zant, returning Midna and the other Twili to their true form.[17] Midna does not tell Link

Ganon

Demise, the original incarnation of Ganon from Skyward Sword

Introduced in The Legend of Zelda as the monstrous Prince of Darkness and central antagonist of the franchise, Ganon has seen much development throughout the long-running series, from being a simple monster to a powerful warlock with deeper motives to his actions.[26] He is one of the three most important characters of the series, alongside Link and Princess Zelda. With the infamous monster's origins revealed in Skyward Sword, as the incarnation of the Demon King Demise's hatred for those with the blood of the Goddess and the spirit of the hero (or, according to the Hyrule Historia, the reincarnation of Demise himself),[27] Ganon is destined to eternally reincarnate to pursue world domination, meaning he is immortal, unlike Link and Zelda.[28][29][30] In most cases of the series, though, he makes a return after being resurrected or breaking a seal. Four Swords Adventures is a notable exception, featuring a reincarnated Ganondorf.[31] The original Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time appears in most of the later games since, making him stand out from other antagonists as the same character from game-to-game.

With his sheer lust for ruling the world with an iron fist, Ganon is almost always the possessor of the Triforce of Power, imbued with the essence of the Goddess Din. This divine relic makes Ganon unimaginably strong and grants him boundless mystical power, making him a grave threat to the land of Hyrule and the world. Additionally, Ganon is the source of darkness.[32] As stated in prophecy, the only one capable of defeating Ganon is the Hero who is chosen by the Goddesses, Link, the possessor of the Triforce of Courage, though occasionally, as seen in some games, he does need the assistance of Zelda, the princess of Hyrule and the possessor of the Triforce of Wisdom (and rarely, others), due to Ganon's great strength and durability.

Link

the main protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series. One of Nintendo's flagship characters, he is characterized as a youthful yet exceptionally capable and intrepid swordsman, typically attired in green clothing, whose overarching mission is the defense of the world against pervasive malevolent forces, most prominently the Kingdom of Hyrule. His narrative consistently emphasizes acts of extraordinary courage, strategic acumen, and resilience in overcoming formidable adversities and intricate challenges.

Link’s debut occurred in the eponymous 1986 action-adventure title The Legend of Zelda, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (originally in Japan on the Family Computer Disk System). Since that inaugural appearance, he has been a constant presence in virtually all mainline entries in the franchise, with the sole exceptions being the Japan-exclusive Satellaview titles, which are regarded as non-canonical.

Within the narrative canon, Link occupies a central triadic relationship alongside Princess Zelda and Ganon. Zelda frequently functions as both his strategic ally and, in certain iterations, a romantic interest, whereas Ganon embodies his persistent and defining arch-nemesis. Across the franchise, Link’s incarnations exhibit recurring motifs of heroism, moral fortitude, and mastery of both martial and mystical skills, thereby establishing him as an enduring emblem of Nintendo’s legacy in interactive entertainment.

Link is most often the bearer of the Triforce of Courage, a powerful sign of himself being chosen by the Golden Goddesses as well as his exemplary courage. Aside from being a skilled warrior, he is famous for his elf-like appearance and usually being armed with the legendary Master Sword and Hylian Shield, his signature weapons since Ocarina of Time. In addition, as explicitly defined by being the wielder of the Master Sword or other sacred weapons such as the Light Arrows, Four Sword, or Magical Sword, as well as restoring peace with the comple

Zelda

is the eponymous deuteragonist of The Legend of Zelda series. One of the key members of the Royal Family, she is the princess of the Kingdom of Hyrule and the daughter of its king, making her its second most powerful leader - though in few games like Twilight Princess, she is portrayed as the primary/sole ruler. Princess Zelda made her first appearance in the original The Legend of Zelda, and is one of the three most important characters of the franchise, alongside Link and Ganon, which is also why her name appears in the title of every game (though The Adventure of Link does not show it directly). With the exception of Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, and Tri Force Heroes, Princess Zelda plays a central role in the series' game plots, normally as the damsel-in-distress. Usually, but not always, Zelda is the one who sends the main protagonist Link on his mission to save Hyrule, defend the Triforce, and has assisted him in defeating their archnemesis, Ganon, since Ocarina of Time. She typically possesses the Triforce of Wisdom. The princess of Hyrule is also famously known to be the main love interest of Link (despite most media depicted this at a small degree and are often rather shown as merely friends).

The mortal incarnation of the Goddess Hylia, Zelda was chosen by destiny to be the keeper of the Triforce of Wisdom, which is the main reason she plays such an integral role in the legends of Hyrule, much like Link does with the Triforce of Courage or Ganon with the Triforce of Power. Just like the former, Princess Zelda is not a single individual within the franchise, but rather various individuals incarnated with the same name that have appeared across the history of Hyrule. Unlike Link, however, all of the iterations of the character belong to the same familial bloodline. Like Ganon, she also has had a couple of alter-egos such as Sheik and Tetra. Whilst each Zelda is distinct, the "fundamental soul" of the character Hylia has endured throughout each generation
