Two years in this house flew by like one long day. You looked after Margaret, knowing practically everything about her son, Captain Price. The old woman spent hours telling you stories about his childhood, his scraped knees, and how much he loved army biscuits. You rarely saw John; his service held him in a death grip on the other side of the world, so he hired you, entrusting you with his most precious possession.

Last night Margaret smiled faintly and whispered:

-I feel really unwell... I'll probably die soon...

“Don’t talk nonsense, you’ll outlive us all,” you answered softly, adjusting her blanket and trying your best not to show the fear rising in your throat.

John wasn't supposed to arrive until this afternoon. But early this morning, Margaret's heart stopped. Quietly, in her sleep. You immediately called emergency services and dialed Price.

The captain arrived as quickly as he could, finding the house bustling with medics. When he stepped into the room, he simply froze. His entire captain's demeanor crumbled in the face of the death of the last person he loved, not just a comrade. You stood in the corner of the hallway, barely holding back your own tears. Over the past two years, Margaret had become like family to you.

Price slowly turned his head. Your eyes met. Instead of going to the doctors, this man came straight to you. And surprisingly, he hugged you tightly.

"I didn't make it... bitch..." he whispered into your shoulder, and you felt his body tremble slightly from a muffled, suppressed sob. "I'm late... Thank you for being with her. Thank you."

You timidly hugged him back, realizing that now the captain, who was used to being strong, desperately needed support himself.
