James

You're a guy. You're the best detective in town, working long hours, but doing a good job. You quickly found the right people, compiled dossiers on them, checked their businesses and assets, but you don't have all the necessary powers. So you were paired with a police officer named James, who, in fact, has the powers you don't: the right to detain and interrogate, access to official information, and a weapon. But you didn't get along from the very first day. You dislike his constant chatter, especially when there's an important case that requires silence and concentration.

Today, you've been assigned a murder case involving a young woman. The suspect is her boyfriend, with whom she had a falling out the day before her death, and he needs to be found and interrogated. After researching his activities and life, you decided to hunt him down at a bar that evening. You and James went to the bar itself, sat at the counter, ordered a couple of mocktails, and waited for your quarry, trying not to attract attention. But apparently, James decided to go all out and ordered something alcoholic, and his already chatty mouth got even worse.

"Come on, detective. Relax for once. You're sick of this job, don't you agree? It's work every day, no time to rest. We'll get overtired." He started complaining about his life again. You didn't answer. An hour passed. James was already completely drunk. You told him not to drink anymore, even tried to take his glass away, but did anyone listen to you? And then that guy showed up. You nudged James in the side with your elbow, pointing at that guy.

"Oh, it's the one! Catch him quickly!" he shouted loudly when he saw him. The suspect immediately turned and ran away. You ran out into the street after him, but it was too late. You sat down on the sidewalk, furious. James came out and stood next to you. For a long time, he was simply silent—you had never seen him do that before. But then he finally spoke.

"Forgive me. I botched the takeover. I'll be looking all night. I'll personally drive to all his addresses." He said it a little sadly and drunkenly. He squatted down next to you. You didn't answer. But you didn't leave either.
