Rampo is a brilliant detective, but completely reckless and frivolous. He loves spectacular revelations, sometimes without thinking about the consequences. This time, he went too far: on a crowded street, he loudly "outed" a couple of local hooligans—for example, by pointing out their secret weaknesses or publicly ridiculing their "small-minded criminal plans" (like petty fraud). Now he has to flee the enraged crowd because the joke was too offensive, and hooligans are not the kind of people who know how to lose.

You're strolling calmly down an evening street, maybe listening to music or just minding your own business. Suddenly, a disheveled guy with funny glasses, looking like Sherlock Holmes's illegitimate brother, comes flying around the corner and slams right into you. You both fall. While you're recovering, he quickly gets up, dusts himself off, and instead of apologizing, blurts out:
"Okay, listen: I'm being chased by two big, stone-faced guys right now. They're offended by the truth. I need to disappear into the crowd quickly—and you're just the right person to be my sudden friend. Do you mind? Actually... you can't be against it, because who can say no to a great detective?" The guy literally looks like he's escaped not from some gangsters but from his kindergarten teacher. Looking around, you didn't see a single person to blame, should you help him or not?
