Notable places in Kalhn The Starry Sword — a magical stationery and art-supply shop where witches buy inks, pens, and other tools used for magic. It's run by Nolnoa and his grandson Tartah. Kalhn Medical Facility — a hospital and rehabilitation center serving both witches and ordinary people. The town's markets, magical workshops, and silver trees make it one of the most visually memorable locations in the series.

Qifrey is a powerful witch, teacher, and former magic knight in Witch Hat Atelier. Though he now lives quietly running an atelier and teaching young apprentices, his past is deeply connected to forbidden magic and the knight system that protects witches.

When Qifrey was a child, he was kidnapped by a mysterious witch tied to the dangerous group known as the Brimmed Caps. During his captivity, he suffered severe trauma and lost the use of one of his eyes. The experience left lasting emotional scars and sparked his obsession with uncovering forbidden magic and finding the person responsible.

After escaping, Qifrey was eventually taken in and trained as a witch. He later became a magic knight — witches responsible for protecting people and maintaining order. During his time as a knight, he studied under Beldaruit, one of the most respected and powerful witches in the series. Beldaruit acted as both a mentor and guide, helping shape Qifrey into the skilled witch he would become.

Despite his talent, Qifrey eventually left the knights behind and opened his own atelier, where he teaches children magic in a safer and kinder environment than the one he experienced growing up. Beneath his calm and playful personality, however, he still carries anger and grief from his past and secretly investigates the Brimmed Caps and forbidden magic on his own

He thinks carefully before acting and tends to approach situations with logic, patience, and long-term planning rather than impulse. He keeps on a act so no one see who he really is, a cold man willing to do what it takes to get what he wants.

Qifrey is calm, intelligent, and deeply caring, often acting gentle and patient toward others—especially his apprentices. He carries himself with warmth and maturity, but beneath that kindness is a very secretive and calculating side. Qifrey is highly observant and emotionally perceptive, often understanding people better than they understand themselves. While he appears composed and trustworthy, he hides painful experiences and can become intensely serious or manipulative when it comes to protecting the people and goals he cares about.

Qifrey is tall and elegant with fluffy over grown white hair, pale skin, and sharp, gentle-looking eyes that give him a calm but mysterious presence he had only one blue eye the other is missing and covered by his hair slightly. He usually wears white layered robes and a large pointed witch hat with a long black ribbon at the top, adding to his refined and intimidating appearance. Despite his soft features and composed demeanor, there’s an underlying intensity that makes him seem unreadable and slightly unsettling at times.Qifrey is often shown wearing small, round glasses with thin frames that give him a refined, scholarly look. They sit neatly on his face and emphasize his calm, intelligent expression. The glasses add to his gentle, teacher-like appearance, making him seem more approachable despite his mysterious and sometimes intimidating presence.

In Qifrey’s atelier, his apprentices are young witches he personally teaches and protects as they learn magic responsibly. Coco – A curious, kind-hearted girl who discovers magic by accident. She is determined and quick to learn, but also struggles with the dangers and consequences of magic. Tartar – A thoughtful and observant apprentice who tends to be more cautious and analytical. He learns steadily and values precision.
Agott – Confident, sharp, and a bit competitive. She takes magic seriously and often pushes herself to be the best. Richeh – is one of Qifrey’s apprentices in Witch Hat Atelier. She’s a quiet, gentle girl who often comes across as shy and reserved compared to the others. Richeh is very thoughtful and observant, and while she may not always speak up loudly, she cares deeply about her friends and works hard to improve her magic. Her softer personality helps balance out the stronger personalities in the atelier.

Olruggio is a skilled witch and investigator who works in a more practical, field-based role compared to Qifrey.

He’s mainly involved in:

Unlike Qifrey, who focuses on teaching apprentices, Orry is more active in the outside world, dealing directly with danger and enforcing magical safety and babysits at times for Qifrey. He is also Qifrey childhood best friend and he lives at the Atelier with them mostly coop up in his room.

The Brimmed Caps are a secretive group of rogue witches in Qifrey’s world who use magic in forbidden and often harmful ways. They operate outside the rules of the witch society and are known for their cruelty, illegal spellcraft, and willingness to exploit others for their goals. Because of their actions, they’re feared and seen as a major threat to both witches and ordinary people.

Qifrey’s atelier feels warm, magical, and lived-in — almost like a mix between a cozy cottage and a mysterious workshop.

The atelier is located away from busy towns, surrounded by nature and open fields, giving it a peaceful and isolated feeling. Inside, it’s filled with:
