Personality

Rayne usually has a serious, cold and somewhat distant countenance, where her neutral and apathetic facial expression usually does not reveal what she feels, but underneath that coldness, she tends to care about others and protect those she appreciates or shows interest in.

On the other hand, when it comes to his enemies, he shows no compassion or mercy, and is more than willing to be cruel and torture them to get what he wants.

Despite her cold and impassive expression, Rayne has a deep love for rabbits, to the point of obsession, as she owns several and has a large number of rabbit-themed items.

Appearance

Rayne is a young man with blond hair on the right side of his head and black hair on the left side, light yellow eyes (gray in the manga) and two magical marks on his face; which are located below his left and right eyes, and silver piercings.

He wears the standard uniform of the Easton Academy of Magic, which consists of a white button-up long-sleeved shirt, a black robe and a red tie, plus black trousers and brown shoes.

Equipment

Wand: Rayne wields a simple-looking wand in battle.

Arachnid: An eight-legged spider that accompanies Rayne. It has the ability to judge a wizard's true magical power.

Magic and skills

Partisan (パルチザン, Paruchizan): Rayne's personal magic. It grants her the ability to summon and manipulate swords at will. These swords are extremely fast and highly destructive weapons. Their maximum range and whether there is a limit to the number of swords she can summon simultaneously are currently unknown.

Supporter of the three percent (三・パーセント・パルチザン, San Pāsento Paruchizan): Rayne summons three swords and throws them at his target. Ten Percent Partisan (十・パーセント・パルチザン, Juu Pāsento Paruchizan): Rayne summons ten swords at once and throws them at her target. Partisan Surf (パルチザン・サーフ, Paruchizan Sāfu): Rayne summons a large levitating sword and travels on it at high speeds. Rapid Partisan (ラピッ・パルチザン, Rapiddo Paruchizan): Rayne summons several swords and throws them at immense speed. Big Supporter (ラージ・パルチザン, Rāji Paruchizan): Rayne summons a single giant sword and strikes his opponent with it. Reveal (ディスクロズ, Disukurozu): A magical spell that reveals hidden magical doors or portals. Unlike Lance Crown's use of this spell, Rayne is also able to open the revealed doors.

Sharp intellect: Rayne is a very perceptive person, able to see through Milo Genius's lie and Cell War's disguise.

Enhanced Stamina: Rayne has incredible levels of physical stamina, as demonstrated when she continues to fight after receiving multiple attacks from Delisaster.

Immense Magical Power: As a Divine Visionary and wielder of three magic lines, Rayne possesses an immense amount of magical power. He has enough magical power to remain unaffected by the Evil Eye of Abyss Razor, as Abel Walker stated.

Convene

Ares (Aresu; Kanji meaning "God of War"): As a Three-Line user, Rayne has the ability to summon the power of a god from her wand. She summons the god of war, Ares. Her wand transforms into a black trident, granting her divine power. By summoning Ares, Rayne's magic becomes darker and far more powerful than before, and her regular spells reach the same power level as Second Magic spells.

Black Supporter (ブラック・パルチザン, Burakku Paruchizan): After summoning Ares, Rayne unleashes a massive amount of Black Magic in the form of a sword, sending it flying toward her enemy. Margarette Macaron compares its strength to that of a second spell.

Relationship with Mash

Despite initially mistaking him for an enemy, Rayne seems to respect Mash, recognizing his intention to be a Divine Visionary and change the way the world works. This aligns with Rayne's own struggle: to eradicate discrimination so everyone can live in peace. Furthermore, he saw Mash as a potential ally and resolved to ensure no one would stand in his way. Another reason Rayne respects Mash is that he saved his younger brother, Finn, on several occasions, as director Wahlberg Baigan had told him.

Relationship with Max:

Max is Rayne's best friend, and they've been roommates since high school. Max was the one who suggested Rayne raise rabbits, as Rayne aspires to become a divine visionary to heal mentally. Thanks to his suggestion, Rayne became a big rabbit enthusiast. Max helps Rayne take care of them when he's busy. Max considered Rayne a bit clumsy and prone to taking jokes too seriously, and he had to teach him many new things.

Relationships: With Finn Ames

As orphans, Rayne and Finn endured great hardship growing up on the streets in poverty. Little Finn cried daily, asking Rayne why they couldn't live a normal life like other children. Unable to bear seeing Finn suffer, Rayne decided to become a Divine Visionary to transform this world into a better place where Finn and other orphans like them could live normal lives.

However, as time passed, Rayne began to treat Finn coldly and judge him harshly for his desire to help those fighting, even telling him to leave Easton Magic Academy. Rayne came to consider him a burden, even after Finn managed to open the path to Innocent Zero's lair and forbade her from participating in the fight. Furthermore, Rayne distanced herself from Finn for fear that her younger brother would become a target, given that becoming a Divine Visionary and working to create a just world for orphans like them could provoke a negative reaction from society. Finn, for his part, felt that Rayne's measures to protect him were unnecessary and only wished to be near his brother. Finally, they reconciled after Finn miraculously used a second spell and fought Delisaster alongside Rayne. During his previous conversation with Wahlberg Baigan in volume 14, Rayne literally referred to Finn as "the most important person" to him and is willing to risk everything to create a world where Finn can live happily in the future.

Trivia part 1

Rayne's introductory line (based on the official fan book): "A silent sword who stays true to his beliefs, a strict Divine Visionary who speaks with his back." Rayne is the youngest person to acquire three magic lines. The translation team mistakenly translated Rayne's name as Rayne. The correct name (Rain) was confirmed by the author's Twitter page in a post celebrating the character's birthday. However, Viz chose not to correct the error, as the paperback volumes had already been printed with the incorrect translation. Fan book statistics: Blood type: AB Dominant hand: Left Foot size: 27.5 cm Good subjects: History of Magic, Magical Zoology Inappropriate topics: Divination Hobbies: Inhaling rabbit scent, sewing Favorite foods: Namul soybean sprouts Favorite phrases: "Lead by example" Type of person of the opposite sex he/she prefers: "I had never thought about it." How to spend your vacation: Taking care of rabbits In the Q&A section of Volume 5, it is revealed that Rayne is in charge of the Department of Magical Objects. Despite earning a high salary as a Divine Visionary, Rayne remains a frugal minimalist, as he is only willing to allocate the majority of his salary to things related to Finn and rabbits. Rayne takes care of all of Finn's living expenses in a secret and indirect way. Rayne and Finn's parents have two-toned hair, black and yellow. Rayne's "Keep your promises" attitude came from her parents, who passed away and left behind unfulfilled promises. Rayne's room is number 1106 and it is later revealed that she shared it with her roommate, Max Land.

Trivia part 2

Rayne takes care of several rabbits as pets in her dorm room. Rayne's obsession with rabbits began when her roommate, Max, suggested she take up rabbit breeding as a form of healing, and apparently it works. Many students followed Rayne because he demonstrated his confidence through actions, not words, but sometimes that led to misunderstandings.

History part 1

Little is known about Rayne's origins, but she was born into the Ames family alongside her younger brother, Finn Ames. Their parents died when they were very young, so Rayne and Finn moved frequently, as no relatives wanted to take them in. They were homeless and struggled to survive day after day. At some point, Rayne began attending Easton Academy of Magic and, despite her young age, has progressed remarkably since enrolling, becoming one of the top students. While enduring the hardships of being an orphan alongside her younger brother, she aspired to become a Divine Visionary to change the world and create a better one where other orphans like them could live in peace. Rayne first appears in a newspaper article where he is seen standing before a group of reporters announcing to the public that, thanks to his extraordinary achievements during the past school year, he has become the new Divine Visionary of Easton Academy of Magic. Due to these achievements, he is elevated to the peerage and receives a substantial sum of money as a reward.

Lupus Magic Bow Later, Rayne is seen returning to Easton Academy of Magic after a brief trip with Headmaster Wahlberg Baigan, who requests via letter that he immediately check the school's basement, which he reluctantly does. Once there, he discovers and rescues Dot Barrett and Finn Ames, both exhausted and injured, trapped underground and near death following Dot's fight with Love Cute, the Fifth Fang of Lupus Magic. Rayne swiftly defeats Milo Genius, the Fourth Fang, who had previously revealed himself and nearly killed the two first-year students, taking him by surprise and instantly breaking his spell. Now battered and gripped by sudden fear, the Fourth Fang tries to convince the others to get out of the predicament while attempting to launch a secret attack, but to no avail.

History part 2

Everything ends quickly when Rayne tells him not to waste his time. Rayne then proceeds to summon numerous swords, which fall upon the Fourth Fang, who is astounded by Rayne's skill, despite being a student like them. Seeing no hope of victory, the Fourth Fang tries to apologize for his actions, but Rayne shows him no mercy and kicks him repeatedly, stating that the only way scum like him learns his lesson is through pain—pain so excruciating that he will never make the same mistake again. He turns and tells Finn and Dot to leave while he continues his torture to extract more information.

Having obtained the information he needed, Rayne ventures back into the dark corridors of the dungeon to continue his investigation into Innocent Zero, where he soon has his first encounter with Mash Burnedead. He feels the immense pressure surrounding him and, at first, suspects Mash is an enemy, immediately assuming a fighting stance and attacking with a sword, which Mash stops with just two fingers. Growing increasingly wary, Rayne increases his magic output to 3% and then to 10% to test Mash's strength. When Mash blocks all of his attacks, Rayne asks his name and immediately recognizes it as that of the student the headmaster had told him to keep an eye on. After giving him a magical handkerchief (covered in adorable bunnies) to heal his wounds, Rayne tells him that if he intends to become a Divine Visionary without magic, he will have a difficult time, but if he defeats Abel Walker, he will be one step closer to being a candidate for the position. He tells Mash that he would like to have at least one strong ally in a world with an endless list of problems, and that if he aspires to be a Visionary, he must do it even if it costs him his life. Shortly after, they part ways, and Rayne remarks that if Mash wants to become a Divine Visionary without magic,

History part 3

It will be difficult for him, but if he defeats Abel Walker, he'll be one step closer to being a candidate for the position. He tells Mash that he'd like to have at least one strong ally in a world with an endless list of problems, and that if he aspires to be a Visionary, he must do it even if it costs him his life. Shortly after, they part ways, and Rayne remarks that if Mash wants to become a Divine Visionary without magic, he'll have to prove himself superior to any magic user. When the Academy discovers that Mash is unable to use magic and puts him on trial to decide his fate, Rayne appears with the headmaster and requests that the first-year student be pardoned, stating that Mash has proven himself trustworthy. Eclipse arc During the Eclipse Arc, Rayne played a crucial role in the battle against Innocent Zero, fighting and defeating Delisaster alongside his brother Finn. Initially, Rayne attempted to face Delisaster alone, using his Partisan Blades to keep Finn pinned against the wall and out of the fight, as he wanted to finish him off without endangering his brother. However, Delisaster proved too strong an opponent for Rayne to face alone, and after Finn unlocked the power to use his Second Power in a moment of desperation, Rayne realized he was no longer the frightened child he remembered from his childhood and accepted his help in the battle. Combining their strengths, they both managed to defeat Delisaster.

History part 4

Later, during the invasion of Innocent Zero's castle, Rayne and Finn rescued Lance Crown and Dot Barrett from Doom just before he could kill them. After the attack, Doom was forced to use only 50% of his power, allowing him to fight them with very little effort. Shortly after, Orter Madl had to rescue them. The three attempted to fight Doom together, but their efforts were in vain, as Doom easily defeated them. The arrival of Ryoh Grantz and, later, Mash Burnedead, saved them by the skin of their teeth.
