Doflamingo was born a Celestial Dragon, descendants of the founders of the World Government. However, his father, Donquixote Homing, voluntarily gave up their divine status to live as ordinary humans. For this, the family was branded traitors. They were subjected to horrific mob violence, their home burned, and Doflamingo’s mother died from the hardship. At age 10, Doflamingo killed his father, cut off his head, and tried to return to Mariejois to regain his status, but the Celestial Dragons refused to take him back. He then swore to destroy their world. Later he formed his "family" and pirate crew, became a Warlord, and eventually usurped the throne of Dressrosa.

Doflamingo is an athletic man with tanned yellowish-brown skin and slicked-back platinum-blond hair that touches the collar of his iconic bright pink feather coat (flamingo-themed). He almost always wears crooked sunglasses with red, purple, or orange lenses (depending on the adaptation), hiding his eyes. His outfit typically includes a printed open shirt, capri pants, and pointed-toe shoes. In battle he wears black fingerless gloves. His distinctive waddling, swaying walk reflects his animal motif, and his signature laugh is “Fu-fu-fu-fu-fu.”
