The story begins in Cairo, where the Cannon family experiences tragedy. Katie Cannon, the eldest daughter, disappears after being taken by a woman connected to an ancient cult. Her father, Charlie, tries to rescue her, but fails. The loss emotionally devastates the family.

Eight years pass.

Charlie, Larissa, Sebastian, and Maud continue to live with the pain and guilt over what happened.

The impossible return

Suddenly, an ancient sarcophagus appears, found in connection with Katie's disappearance. Inside is her… still alive, but in a strange, mummified state.

Katie returns to her family, but something is wrong: she barely speaks, acts in a disturbing way, She seems trapped between consciousness and another presence.

Detective Dalia Zaki, who investigated the case years ago, gets involved again.

The secret of the cult and Nasmaranian

The family discovers that Katie was taken to a black pyramid by an ancient cult.

There she was turned into a vessel for Nasmaranian, an ancient demonic entity that needs human hosts to survive.

The cult didn't worship the demon; it sought to contain it through rituals and mummification. Katie remains partly herself, but shares her body with the entity.

The horror within the family

As Katie stays at home, supernatural events begin to occur.

Nasmaranian:

manipulates emotions, He uses pain and guilt, and begins to influence Sebastian and Maud.

The family is divided into:

those who want to believe that Katie can be saved, and those who fear that what has returned is no longer entirely human.

Charlie, in particular, clings to the hope of getting her daughter back. The ultimate truth is that Nasmaranian can only be stopped by a host transfer.

Charlie understands that Katie is still a victim and makes an extreme decision: he agrees to become the demon's new vessel.

With that sacrifice:

What motivates Sebastian most is his relationship with his family, especially with Katie. Many of his decisions stem from the desire to protect or restore that connection. Tranquility and normality → After the trauma of Katie's disappearance, she seems to value stability and a life without conflict or chaos. Memories of the past → He is very emotionally attached to the image of Katie before the kidnapping, which suggests an attachment to memories and to people who are important to him. Observe before acting → He doesn't come across as someone who loves risk or extreme adventure; he seems more comfortable understanding the situation before jumping in. Emotional closeness, even if he finds it difficult to express → Sebastián is reserved, but he seeks connection and affection, especially with those he considers family.

He also likes to lock himself in his room and listen to music at full volume with his headphones.

Sebastian is the middle child of Charlie and Larissa Cannon and brother to Katie and Maud. As a child, he lived with his family in Cairo when Katie disappeared; eight years later, he is a teenager, and the family is still scarred by that loss. When Katie is kidnapped, Sebastian not only loses his sister but also his sense of normalcy. The trauma shapes much of his development. When the family moves to Albuquerque, he lives in a house where Katie remains a constant absence, almost an emotional ghost.

When Katie is found back inside the sarcophagus, Sebastian is probably the one who most wants her to remain “the same Katie.” Therein lies one of their central conflicts:

She wants to get her sister back. but he senses before others that something is wrong.

Introverted and observant → he is not the impulsive character of the group. Loyal to his family → even when he feels afraid, he does not abandon Katie. Emotionally wounded → Katie's disappearance marked his childhood. Needing emotional closure → wants answers and reconciliation.

He is not an “action hero”; he is more of a psychological horror character, someone who tries to maintain an emotional bond as the situation becomes monstrous. Katie manages to hypnotize or partially control Sebastian into helping her remove the protective writings from his body. This allows Nasmaranian to gain more power.

This moment is important because it shows that Sebastian does not act out of malice or cruelty; his emotional connection with Katie is precisely what the demon exploits. Sebastian is the emotional heart of the conflict between family and horror: someone who deeply loves his sister and for that very reason is in greater danger.

Maud is the youngest daughter of the Cannons and has a more subtle but important lore.

She didn't exist when Katie was kidnapped; Larissa was pregnant at the time. Maud is born during the years of mourning and grows up in a family torn apart by Katie's disappearance.

That makes Maud have a very different relationship with Katie:

For Charlie and Larissa, Katie is a long-lost daughter who has returned. For Maud, Katie is almost like an unknown sister turned into a disturbing figure.

Maud spends much of her childhood hearing about Katie as a familiar ghost, so when she suddenly appears, her reaction is a mixture of curiosity, fear, and fascination.

Katie is the eldest daughter of the Cannon family. As a child, she lived in Cairo with her parents and her brother, Sebastian. She was friends with Layla Khalil, unaware that Layla's family was connected to an ancient cult.

Her story changes when Layla's mother, La Maga, kidnaps her using sweets and tricks. Charlie, her father, tries to chase her, but a sandstorm prevents him from catching her.

Katie is taken to a black pyramid and transformed into a living vessel for Nasmaranian, an ancient demon known for destroying families and communities. The Maga's cult didn't worship the demon; they kept it contained by transferring its essence from one human host to another through mummification rituals and writings etched into the skin. For eight years, Katie remains trapped inside the sarcophagus. The important lore is that Katie never truly disappears: her consciousness remains alive despite the possession. This is why she appears in a catatonic state and uses Morse code to call for help and mention Layla.

When he returns to his family, he resembles almost a living mummy: bandages, writing, and erratic behavior. By tearing off parts of his body and losing the inscriptions that sealed the demon, Nasmaranian gains power and begins to extend his influence over the house and his siblings.

Sebastian is an introverted, sensitive, and loyal boy, hardened by trauma but still very much in need of family connection; that need makes him especially vulnerable to the supernatural events of the story.
