The contagion began in the winter of 1812 in snow-covered Russia. It was not a man-made disease, but a biblical curse and the beginning of the Apocalypse. God had turned his back on humanity due to years of bloody wars in Europe. The dead rose from their graves to punish the living for their sins. No medicine could explain or cure it.

1812 - 1815.

They run with the speed of the devil himself, pouncing on unwary soldiers. Knock them down immediately!" Bomber / Demoman: "Walking hellfire. Corrupted soldiers carrying barrels of gunpowder. One point-blank shot will kill you—aim only from afar!" Shockwave / Gypsy (Zapper): "Corrupted sappers whose hearts are filled with malice. They wield heavy axes, destroying our barricades in seconds." Brute / Brute: "Terrifying giants in cuirasses. Swords and bullets barely pierce their armored flesh. A concerted attack is needed against this devilish abomination." Igniter / Igniter: "Spawn of the fiery hell. They carry torches, ready to burn our fortifications and ignite the gunpowder in the barrels. Destroy them first." Lecher / The Hunter: "Wretched souls lurking in the shadows.
