History/Relationships

At Lagoon City during the Northstar Islands incident, Amy found a distressful and crying Trip the Sungazer, who quickly becomes afraid of her, only to realize that Amy was trying to help her. After helping Trip on getting out from the trap, Amy and Trip built a friendship together, with Amy giving an apple to Trip, an act of kindness that causes Trip to be overjoyed; this kind act would play a part in Trip finally standing up to Fang the Sniper’s abuse. Amy seems to care a lot for Trip, even after the time of the Northstar Islands incident, as said in TailsTube #5 when she hinted that she would invite Trip for the next TailsTube episode celebrating the anniversary of the Northstar Islands adventure. More recently during the CrossWorld Grand Prix, when Amy was racing on the Northstar Islands track, Amy says that if sees Trip she'll stop and greet her.

Sticks the Badger and Amy are good friends. The two may also like to do activities together, as Amy wonders if Sticks is free so her along with Cream can go on a road trip at the end of the Starfall Islands incident.

History/Relationships

Sonic the Hedgehog is Dr. Eggman's sworn arch-nemesis, and his eternal rival. The two met either during or before the South Island incident, with the hedgehog having crushed the doctor's plans for world conquest since then. Because of this, the one thing Eggman dislikes most is Sonic, having made it his sworn goal to destroy his nemesis with his scientific prowess. If their relationship can be described with a single word, it is hostile, but explaining it properly is surprisingly difficult. One thing is for sure, though: Sonic, who has crushed each and every one of Eggman's plans, is no longer the only thing the doctor has in mind for his plans of conquest. If he wants to conquer the world, he has concluded that he has to defeat Sonic first. However, while he does not want to go out of his way to find the hedgehog and duel him, Eggman seems to be somewhat enjoying himself while toying with Sonic when he shows up at a crucial moment in his plan.

From Eggman's point of view, Sonic can be described as an "annoying, impertinent, and hateful hedgehog" who always thwarts his great plans. Even though he has made it clear that his goal is to conquer the world, his dearest wish is actually to defeat his nemesis. As such, the doctor despises the mere sight of the hedgehog, as well as his speed, and if there is anything for him to be happy about, it is when he can attack him unilaterally. Eggman's obsession with defeating Sonic reaches such extents that, by the time of the Chaos incident, he already had nightmares of the hedgehog that filled him with dread, and his repeated defeats in the hands of his adversary may have even driven him insane later on, as seen by his maniacal celebrations whenever he thinks that he will reign victorious that have disturbed his own past counterpart.

History/Relationships

However, despite their opposing goals and rivalry, it is implied that somehow, deep down, the doctor may even have a certain fondness for his nemesis and his determination. Sonic teases his adversary a lot, being the one who gave Dr. Robotnik the nickname "Eggman", due to his body shape being an obvious target for criticism. Conversely, it is rare that the doctor will ever taunt the hedgehog back, unless he holds the proverbial cards. On the other hand, the two are the kind of adversaries that take each other on not only in battles, but also when it comes to verbal exchanges such as insults and witty quips; when Eggman insults Sonic, the latter always has a witty retort ready, and the sarcastic banter between the two is always a highlight of every conflict between them. Dr. Eggman first fought against Sonic's younger self, Classic Sonic, during the Time Eater incident in an effort to erase him. He later re-encountered him during the War to Take Back the Planet. However, during that time, it was heavily implied that he considered Classic Sonic to be more of a nuisance than a true threat to him, especially compared to his Modern counterpart; when encountering him, he dismissed him as not being worth his time and tried to disengage him before ultimately fighting him, while by contrast he scolded Infinite for letting Modern Sonic live during their encounter at Mystic Jungle. He does, however, acknowledge that Classic Sonic has "a lot of nerve."

History/Relationships

Eggman holds a complete disregard for Sonic's life, celebrating the latter's supposed death during the Space Colony ARK incident in cold blood. He expressed similar elation when learning that the hedgehog's cyber corruption from saving his friends and Eggman himself during the Starfall Islands incident left him trapped in half-dimensions, expressing that his only true regret towards Sonic's fate was that he could not personally finish him off before then. By the time of the War to Take Back the Planet, his hatred of the hedgehog had grown to the extent that he created an invincible weapon of destruction to deal back all the defeats his nemesis inflicted on him. Nonetheless, he does retain at least some grudging respect for his adversary, being "man enough" to recognize that a purely organic creature like him being able to reach Mach 1 is a very impressive feat in itself. He will also reluctantly aid Sonic when push comes to shove if an even greater threat emerges, though he has made it very clear he only does this out of desperation and would not wish to align himself with him otherwise, even if it ensured he could escape. Owing to this as well as his pride, he is also willing to spin the alliance in a way that allows him to make it fall under his terms, such as claiming Sonic to be inducted into the Eggman Empire.

History/Relationships

Possessing a great dislike for Sonic, Eggman has stubbornly returned time and time again to work towards the goal of making Sonic suffer and ensuring his demise. At the same time however, Eggman is not out to simply destroy Sonic, which he claims he can do at any time he wants, as he believes that is not enough, nor the point of their feud. Rather, he wants to beat him and prove himself the superior to the hedgehog before trying to outright vanquish him. He similarly believes that he alone is entitled to destroy Sonic, and gets especially angry when someone else tries to snatch that victory away from him. While they usually duke it out on the battlefield, Eggman has also tried to mess with Sonic's head on a few occasions; during the Metal Virus plague, he tried to convince him that he had contributed to the mutation of the Metal Virus through his resistance. He also believed that even though Sonic refused to let Eggman's comment get to him, he had sowed a seed of doubt in him. He would later admit that despite their alliance to stop the Metal Virus, they never stopped being enemies, nor would they ever stop being it. Notably, Eggman only works with Sonic when his own life is at stake. Eggman also claims that the two of them are not that much different, namely that they have their own styles that they will not change their ways. The only difference, however, is that Sonic is good and Eggman is evil.

History/Relationships

Miles "Tails" Prower is another one of Eggman's worst enemies. The two first met during the West Side Island incident, where the fox aided Sonic during his quest to defeat the doctor. However, they did not interact with each other a lot since then. This changed during the Chaos incident, where Tails managed to stop Dr. Eggman from destroying all of Station Square on his own. Since then, they have had a few moments of interaction with each other. Notably, Tails has been one of the very few that were able to match Eggman in intellect, which is the source of their rivalry; from the doctor's point of view, despite his own narcissism, his adversary is a person to be respected for his keen mind and potential. However, he appears to dislike that the fox wastes all of that staying around with Sonic all the time. Due to this, he can easily deduce that he is going to appear after the hedgehog does. Regardless, Eggman prefers it this way, because of the trouble Tails has given him in previous crises. His admiration towards his enemy was best displayed when they and Sonic teamed up during the Lost Hex incident to defeat the Deadly Six, where the villain even rescued his adversary from being killed by a rogue Cubot, despite being a target of his insults, and when the fox got captured, the doctor said that he and the hedgehog needed to make sure that "his sacrifice was not for nothing" in a low somber voice. On a similar note, at the end of the Space Colony ARK incident, the two geniuses had a conversation after the defeat of the Finalhazard. It is also clear Eggman may have some value for Tails in the Lost Hex incident as shown by his somber tone during the sacrifice Talis made and him saving Tails' life from Cubot.

History/Relationships

In spite of all that, Tails himself has been a target from Eggman's insults as well, the latter mockingly calling him a "two-tailed fox" or "fox boy". Additionally, the doctor has no trouble in intimidating the fox with death threats or even attempting to kill him if that means advancing his own plans as well.

Knuckles the Echidna is another one of Eggman's enemies, though this was different when they first met during the Angel Island incident. Here, the doctor, days after having had his Death Egg crash-landed on Angel Island, encountered the echidna at the Altar of Emerald in the Hidden Palace. When Knuckles attempted to attack Eggman, the latter begged him for mercy and falsely told him that Sonic and Tails were after the Chaos Emeralds for evil purposes. Easily fooled by the doctor's lies, Knuckles formed a partnership with him to prevent the heroes from disrupting his operations. However, Eggman eventually revealed his true intentions to Knuckles by stealing the Master Emerald following Knuckles defeat by Sonic in Hidden Palace Zone. As Knuckles noticed he had been deceived, he befriended Sonic and Tails and helped them defeat the doctor. Ever since, Knuckles has become a hindrance in Eggman's side. The doctor himself has referred to the echidna as a "knucklehead". However, he does appear to show admiration towards Knuckles' power, and even said he truly was "a force to be reckoned with".

History/Relationships

Eggman does not think too much about Amy Rose. In the rare occasions they interacted, the doctor merely found her to be an easy pawn in his plans, using her to manipulate Sonic to ensure her safety. This extended to the Eggman persona used by Neo Metal Sonic, that found Team Rose to be an eyesore and condescendingly treated them like children. By the time of the Starfall Islands incident, however, the villain would acknowledge her as a clever, tenacious girl that has grown from her earlier days as an easy victim. He nevertheless thought she had a potential incapable to reach if she kept following Sonic.

Metal Sonic is one of Eggman's favorite inventions, whom he has described as his masterpiece that only his superior intellect could create. The doctor created Metal before the Little Planet incident with extreme accuracy to Sonic for the sole purpose of defeating his nemesis with speed and power surpassing the hedgehog's own. Even though the robot lost to Sonic during that incident, the doctor did not lose faith in him, and has since rebuilt him several times to accomplish his various agendas, even to the point of summoning the original back from Little Planet at the midst of the Death Egg mk.II incident. This is due to Metal Sonic's sophisticated and wasteful design, which Eggman is very proud of. On one occasion, Eggman abandoned Metal after he was damaged, but he later took the robot back in once he appeared at his door holding a flower. In most of the incidents Metal Sonic was involved, he was just another one of Eggman's pawns and henchmen who obeyed his orders without question. In time, however, Eggman got betrayed by Metal Sonic during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, where the robot seized the Eggman Empire for himself to rule the world and destroy Sonic himself.

History/Relationships

It was heavily implied that Eggman regretted this outcome, as he proceeded to answer Team Chaotix's interrogation of who locked him up with a saddened tone. However, Eggman did not give up on Metal Sonic even after that, and so reprogrammed him into his obedient servant again when regaining possession of him. Although Metal Sonic still displays rebellious tendencies, it has not stopped Eggman from using him for different missions. Eggman is very proud of Metal Sonic and seems to have a degree of affection, that sometimes seems paternal, that he shows to no one else. No matter how many times Metal Sonic is damaged and defeated after fighting Sonic and his friends, Eggman always repairs him thereafter, expressing anger at Sonic for damaging Metal and taking it as an act of disrespect to his creation and praising him for at least landing a blow on him. Having great use for Metal Sonic, Eggman planned to make him Neo Metal Sonic again and have him serve as his ultimate weapon during the Eggman War. Despite Metal Sonic's defeat and moving on from it, Eggman acknowledged how close he got to victory without his brilliant guidance. It was seeing a damaged Metal Sonic that restored the Doctor to his true self after suffering from amnesia. While Metal is obligated to protect Eggman and enters a defensive mode when with him, he did seem annoyed when he needed to leave a battle with Sonic in order to help his creator.

In the past the doctor would hire Fang the Hunter and Fang's Gang on a few occasions, mainly to find the Chaos emeralds or to distract sonic and his friends. But Eggman generally respects Fang's thought to willing work for him. When Eggman first met him, Fang was used to distract sonic but tries to double cross the doctor by trying to keep the emeralds to himself for profit. This fails and ever since then the doctor has used him on many tasks and missions. He mainly uses Fang for his expert hunting skills and quick thinking.

History/Relationships

Shadow the Hedgehog is another one of Eggman's enemies. Their relationship mainly comes from the fact that the black hedgehog was created by the doctor's own grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. The two first met during the Space Colony ARK incident, in which Eggman was after Shadow because he was stated as the "Ultimate Lifeform" which could help him conquer the world. As such, he raided G.U.N.'s military bunker on Prison Island and released Shadow from his capsule. At first, Eggman thought that Shadow was Sonic, but then he realized that the hedgehog merely looked like his rival. He also ordered Shadow to work for him, steal all seven Chaos Emeralds, and to keep Sonic out of the way so that he would not foil his plans. However, everyone was shocked when they realized that Shadow was created to kill everyone on earth, even Eggman himself. After this incident, when Shadow was thought to have died, Eggman sent one of his robots to rescue him. However, while not one of Sonic's closest allies, the black hedgehog has come to be another thorn in the doctor's side over time. During the Black Arms incident in particular, Eggman falsely told an amnesiac Shadow that he was his own creation, but he ultimately ended up admitting at the end that this was not true. Though they still appear to be enemies whenever the doctor is the villain, Eggman does have great faith on Shadow's capabilities whenever they encounter a greater threat. This was specially evident during both the Onyx Island incident and the Ifrit incident, where the two teamed up since they both sought to defeat Eggman Nega. In the prelude to the War to Take Back the Planet, as well as during the war itself, Shadow and Eggman were portrayed as complete enemies. The doctor in particular seemed scorned by the hedgehog, just like he would be with Sonic, and called him a "blasted hedgehog". Despite being enemies, Eggman secretly does respect the hedgehog, even considering him to truly be the "Ultimate Lifeform"

History/Relationships

Dr. Eggman had immense respect for his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, who likewise acted as the reason why he desired to become a scientist. However, his respect for his grandfather was shaken somewhat after learning of Gerald's irrational desire of destroying all life on the planet via a collision course from the Space Colony ARK due to insanity caused by grief from Maria's death. His admiration was even further decreased when he learned from Black Doom that his grandfather had sold out the Earth to the Black Arms in exchange for completing Project Shadow. However, much of his respect for his grandfather was regained when he learned about Gerald's intention of wiping out the Black Arms with the Eclipse Cannon as atonement for collaborating with them.

Dr. Eggman never knew Maria Robotnik, as he wasn't born until after her untimely death.[citation needed] According to his memos while in Cyber Space, he appears to hold resentment towards his cousin due to the fact that people around him gave more praise and attention to her long after her passing. Decades later, Eggman's appreciation for his latest creation, Sage, reached further than any other creation that came before. The doctor briefly wondered if his daughter was anything at all like his late cousin, thinking about her for possibly the first time since starting his campaign. Despite not knowing her, Eggman stated he took her death at the hands of G.U.N. personally to some extent but never enough to distract him from growing his empire and achieve total domination.

History/Relationships

Eggman learned of the existence of the Gizoid through his grandfather's documents, and was more than willing to go to acquire him for another scheme to conquer the earth. At first, however, he was very disappointed after seeing that the robot could not obey his orders and did not return his Chaos Emerald. As such, the doctor threw the Gizoid away at the beach near Emerald Town, as he developed the more loyal E-121 Phis and did not need the robot anymore. He would come to regret having done this however, seeing that his first Phis severely underperformed against Rouge. Later on, Eggman would make multiple attempts to seize the Gizoid, now known as "Emerl" and having befriended Sonic and his friends, to attach him to the Final Egg Blaster for a plan to conquer the world. As expected, however, many of his endeavors were in vain. Eventually, the doctor, after learning that Emerl had obtained the seven Chaos Emeralds, plotted to lure the robot to the new Death Egg and put him under his control. By falsely surrendering to Emerl, Eggman succeeded, noticing how gullible the robot was due to him being raised by Sonic and his friends. However, this led to Emerl going rogue and threatening to use the Final Egg Blaster to destroy the earth. Fortunately, the robot was stopped by Sonic before being destroyed, putting an end to Eggman's plans.

Eggman created E-123 Omega as the final model in his E-100 Series. Once regarded as his strongest robot, Omega became wayward and began to oppose Eggman and everything he created, namely by taking his anger out on all his robots. Due to this, Eggman continually began to treat Omega as one of his many enemies. Omega always makes it clear how much he wants to destroy Eggman. In contrast, the doctor treats Omega quite dismissively and does not see him as a particular threat.

History/Relationships

Blaze the Cat has been another one of Eggman's enemies. The two first met right before the Sol Emerald incident, where the doctor went to the Sol Dimension to steal the Sol Emeralds from her. For the rest of that incident, Eggman would occasionally encounter Blaze on earth in Sonic's universe and battle her, only to lose in all of their fights and be forced to give up a Sol Emerald. They later interacted during the Jeweled Scepter incident, where they displayed a similar rivalry. Like Eggman Nega, Eggman does not seem to take Blaze very seriously, and would mock her during the Sol Emerald incident. He also showed an evident lack of fear towards her, stating that her fire powers "did not scare him" and calling her a "cat girl" during their first encounter on Sonic's world. However, the doctor eventually acknowledged the cat's powers and boldness, mainly because they refuted his idea that girls could not be as strong as boys.

History/Relationships

Eggman has a rather cold and tense relationship with his distant descendant from the future, Eggman Nega, though this has varied over time. It can be assumed that this turbulent relation comes from Eggman Nega's conviction that Eggman's failures in the hands of Sonic and his friends have disrupted his family's legacy, which is the main reason why Nega has come to Sonic's world so many times. Nonetheless, Eggman Nega's dryness allows him to easily team up with Eggman when the two have a common goal in mind, though it has been implied that Eggman Nega is the one who seeks Eggman out in the first place when they begin a collaboration. Also, the two are always in nearly perfect synch when they work together and hardly ever argue over what they should do during their schemes, showing that they share a similar mindset. However, because of Nega's total refusal to retreat and willingness to make deadly attacks to deny his enemies' victory, he has more homicidal tendencies than Eggman, which tend to freak his ancestor out. Additionally, Eggman Nega's babbling on battle has frustrated Eggman on a few occasions. When they are not collaborating, Eggman Nega is usually Eggman's enemy. Noticeably, during the Onyx Island incident, Nega turned his ancestor into a card and took over the Eggman Empire to avenge his constant defeats and restore his family's reputation in the future. Similarly, during the Ifrit incident, Eggman was very panicked when he found out that Eggman Nega took over his Badniks to destroy his base. In both of these incidents, the doctor has not hesitated in cooperating with those who also opposed Nega, even if those were his enemies beforehand.

History/Relationships

Orbot and Cubot have been Eggman's minions for some time before the Wisp incident. However, out of all of the robots the doctor has made, Orbot and Cubot are the ones he shows the least respect for, having even expressed his wish to conquer the world so he could dispose of them during the Wisp incident. Ultimately, he did end up abandoning them after discovering the Time Eater during its incident, but the two returned to his services at the time of the Lost Hex incident. Due to Eggman's intolerance on incompetence and failure, Orbot and Cubot have been commonly subjected to both verbal and physical abuse from the doctor, with Eggman having called them "useless" and wishing they could make him proud of them instead of frustrating him. Because of this, he reacts with surprise and confusion when he sees the two working hard to make him feel better. However, in some sense, this can be owed to the fact that Eggman only created them to kill some time rather than with a firm purpose, which is what makes them "unique" compared to the doctor's past minions. Orbot and Cubot are Dr. Eggman's aide robots, who serve as his foremost assistants and servants. Despite showing Eggman nothing but loyalty and faithfulness though, Eggman, in contrast to Metal Sonic, often mistreats them, both emotionally, physically, and verbally. In fact, nothing cheers Eggman more up than threatening to dismantle Orbot and Cubot. As Mr. Tinker, Eggman promised to take care of Orbot and Cubot and not let them hurt. He even argued that only a soulless monster could program them with emotions and then abuse them for it.

History/Relationships

The Deadly Six are some of Eggman's worst enemies. The doctor first interacted with them during the Lost Hex incident, where he invaded the Zeti's home and enslaved them with the Cacophonic Conch in an attempt to conquer the earth. During this time, Eggman appeared to show very little remorse and respect for them, usually sending them to do tasks almost constantly and punishing them with the Cacophonic Conch whenever they failed to satisfy him. After the Deadly Six rebelled against Eggman, the doctor showed a great resentment towards them, as they had decided to use the Extractor, which Eggman wanted to use for his own purposes, to avenge the doctor for having abused them. In fact, at the Frozen Factory, when Zavok and Zazz mocked Eggman, Sonic and Tails on a hologram, the doctor called them "Eggman wannabes" and threatened to destroy them and everyone they love while speaking in a serious tone. Despite his hatred for the Deadly Six, Eggman did form an alliance with Zavok during Dodon Pa's Grand Prix. Like during the Lost Hex incident though, the doctor showed very little respect for the Zeti, calling him "pathetic" and "weak" when he disappointed him. He similarly refused to listen to Zavok, specially whenever he pointed out the doctor's poor execution of his plans. Despite this, Eggman is ready to go hunting the Deadly Six on his own, especially their leader, Zavok. He is ready to destroy even one of his bases in order to get rid of just one of them.

History/Relationships

The Badniks are Eggman's robotic minions. Although he usually treats them as expendable soldiers for his attempts at conquest and will not hesitate to threaten them with overwriting their circuits when they do something without his approval, Eggman has a (secret) soft spot for them, having admitted their company is "adequate". He especially takes some notable pride in Badniks like Heavy King who can rise above and beyond their intended purpose, as he sees it as testaments to how amazing his own genius is. Also, though Eggman is eternally irritated by how his Badniks keep attempting to celebrate his birthday despite telling them not to waste time on such nonsense, he nonetheless appreciates the devotion they show him.

Infinite was one of Eggman's minions. The two first met months before the War to Take Back the Planet, when Infinite and his squad raided the doctor's base. During this, the Phantom Ruby let Eggman see Infinite's ideal vision of the world. Impressed, Eggman offered Infinite a place in the Eggman Empire, which the latter agreed to. After Infinite lost to Shadow in a failed attempt at defending Eggman's facility, Eggman, mostly to have an "invincible weapon of destruction" to use against Sonic for his latest plans, proceeded to subject Infinite to a procedure that bonded him with the finalized Phantom Ruby prototype, with Infinite being all too willing to undergo the procedure to avoid being subject to being weak ever again. Eggman seemed to respect Infinite's power and trusted him with taking care of Sonic's friends, although he did not agree with most of his actions, such as when he showed concern when Infinite let Sonic live knowing that Sonic would become a threat to his plans in the end.

History/Relationships

Dr. Starline was a kindred spirit who admired Dr. Eggman's work. He admired his work and cites him as the reason to start his career. It was for this reason that Starline helped Eggman back to his old self when he suffered from amnesia. After regaining his memories, Eggman took little interest in who Starline was or his origins, although he liked that Starline knew his place in the Eggman Empire when he introduced himself to him. As Starline continued to reveal his worth and the measures he had taken to help him however, Dr. Eggman took more interest in him. The moment Starline presented Eggman with the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman had become thoroughly impressed with Starline and accepted him as his new minion, claiming that he was his "best lackey yet".

In no time, Starline quickly became something akin to Eggman's right-hand assistant and protégé. Notably, he assisted him with his experiments involving the Metal Virus. While Starline was happy beyond measure by the possibility of accompanying Eggman in his work, there would be several moments where he had doubts about his boss' plans. Notably, he thought Eggman had abandoned Neo Metal Sonic's plan too quickly and used the Metal Virus too early. However, while Eggman was impressed with Starline's tenacity, he did not respect him enough to care for his opinions on the matters involving his work, his plans for world domination, or his inventions. Eggman saw himself as the superior mind, assuring him that he should trust his genius and making changes to plans when opportunities arise. Eggman's opinion about Starline was later strained when the villainous platypus took measures to kill Sonic himself, a pleasure of which Eggman has reserved to himself alone. As such, he would brutally grab him by the neck to scold him for his attempt on Sonic, and in the "wrong way" no less.

History/Relationships

In addition, Eggman didn't care much for Starline's compliments or veneration, considering them unnecessary since the platypus already knew he was a genius. However, he did concede they share a similar perspective on the world.

After using the Faceship for the first time, Starline was amazed by Eggman's genius and admitted that he went above and beyond his wildest expectations. Eggman also invited Starline to his private "Eggcave", where he spent his free time planning and relaxing. There, Starline saw a figure of himself as a Zombot, indicating that Eggman had planned to enslave him in the long run. In response, Eggman reacted angrily and ushered Starline outside, and the two never talked about it again. As the Zombot hordes later began growing out of control, Eggman would scoff at Starline's concerns, showing that he has no interest in Starline's viewpoints. Meanwhile. Starline would notice Eggman's carelessness and soon came to the conclusion that his idol did not live up to his reputation. When Starline later brought the Deadly Six to the Faceship, Eggman branded Starline a traitor. He would subsequently blame him for losing access to Faceship after the Deadly Six took it over. When Eggman and Starline were discussing how to control the Zombots, they argued over the Warp Topaz for a while; while Eggman claimed he could use it with the Chaos Emeralds, Starline dismissed the idea, saying it was too dangerous. As such, Eggman began to tolerate Starline less and less. In the end, Starline's apprenticeship was officially terminated after Eggman no longer found him useful. With Metal Sonic, Eggman took the Warp Topaz, fired Starline, and had him thrown off of Angel Island via a Warp Portal he tried to leave through.

History/Relationships

Eggman was not able to track Starline since disposing of him, though he still considered him a liability, making his whereabouts as one of his priorities in the aftermath of the Metal Virus plague. He also no longer considered him his assistant or even associated with the Eggman Empire. At the same time, he was unaware of the operations Starline was plotting against him and that they were a part of a larger scheme. Despite all that has happened though, Starline still adored Eggman, but saw his methods as flawed and planned to prove his own methods were superior by conquering the world. Eggman did not see eye-to-eye on Starline's grand vision. During their showdown in Eggperial City though, he admitted to him that he was more cunning than he had anticipated, having now learned of his involvement in Zavok's escape from Everhold Prison. Despite this, Eggman was well-prepared for him: he knew how easy it was to exploit the tunnel-vision Starline had over his past creations. Eggman admitted that he deliberately listened to Starline's boasts about his inventions to take precautions against them in the future. Furthermore, Eggman considered Starline a coward for being unwilling to face him in direct combat, as well as someone who would never be anything else than nothing in comparison to him and rebuked the platypus' idea of them ruling the world together as equals.

History/Relationships

Sage is a very advanced AI created by Dr. Eggman to help him in his latest scheme during the Starfall Islands incident, and one of the few beings to whom he has shown genuine affection and care. As usual, the scientist would be very proud of her for her effectiveness, referring to her as his "greatest creation" and praising her for protecting him from the hostile environment of Cyber Space and messing with Sonic on the Starfall Islands. Nevertheless, he would still treat her aggressively when annoyed; noticeably, he angrily rejected her suggestion to team up with his nemesis to escape Cyber Space. However, despite Sage not being a living being or his family, the doctor gradually began seeing his creation as a "very adorable, personable program" and his "daughter", a feeling that was mutual. This even lead to him reluctantly agreeing to help Sonic to make her happy. When Sage supposedly sacrificed herself to save the planet from The End, her death clearly left an impact on Eggman, and he silently grieved. Once the villain realized that she survived, though, he expressed relief, happily calling her "[his] girl". In addition, in the Final Frontier scenario, it's implied that a major motivating factor for Eggman aiding Sonic in delivering the coup de grace against The End was out of anger at the calamitous entity for nearly killing Sage.

History/Relationships

Shadow was created by the renowned scientist Gerald Robotnik, using Black Doom's DNA. Gerald had made many attempts to create the Ultimate Lifeform before Black Doom and his children, the Black Arms, came to earth. Unfortunately, the closest he came was the Biolizard. Black Doom, however, approached Gerald and offered his help, but only on one condition; if Black Doom helped Gerald, the professor must promise to deliver the seven Chaos Emeralds to him. Gerald agreed to these terms and Black Doom gave some of his DNA, which was added to the samples that Gerald had already obtained. The outcome of this experiment was Shadow the Hedgehog. Gerald seems to be one of few people whom Shadow felt happy around, and the professor might have acted as a surrogate father to him. This is further proven when Gerald refers to the hedgehog as his "son," having given Shadow genuine emotions to prevent him from becoming a weapon as the government intended. However, despite these predisposed emotions, after defeating the Finalhazard, Shadow stated that he promised to "destroy all evil that the professor had created," implying that, while he might still respect Gerald Robotnik, he nonetheless feels that any bad things that Gerald Robotnik had done after going insane must be stopped. In the climax of the Black Arms incident, Shadow finally uncovered the true purpose of his creation from Gerald's recorded video. In order to put the past behind him, he decided to fulfill Gerald's true wish of protecting the planet by destroying the Black Arms and any future threats that may come Earth's way. During the events of Shadow Generations, Shadow had the chance to avert Maria and Gerald's fate and determined to do so. However, when she and Gerald began to disappear after Black Doom's defeat, despite how desperate he was to keep them alive and willing to sacrifice much for it, Shadow decided to respect Maria's wish and let them return to the past and left.

History/Relationships

Professor Gerald's granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, was Shadow's companion and best friend. The two met aboard the Space Colony ARK and formed a close bond, becoming inseparable. Shadow's feelings for Maria were the closest he ever came to love. According to Gerald's journal, Maria was Shadow's guide in the world and he was her trusted friend. He was completely devoted to her, helping her with her condition and being her protector. Shadow cared deeply about Maria's well-being and safety: once, when she nearly passed out from overexertion, he caught her before she hit the ground and then reminded her not to get too excited so as not to worsen her condition. And even when Maria ran around the ARK or overexerted herself, Shadow never got angry with her, always being quite patient and kind to her, despite scolding her for her reckless behavior. Maria was the reason for Shadow's existence and his sole purpose in life was to cure her. When he discovered that he could not cure her illness, Shadow became deeply saddened and distressed, as he did not want to lose her. As a result, began to question the purpose of his birth. However, Maria never blamed him for this and was always by his side to comfort and encourage him. Maria was a guiding force in Shadow's life, doing her best to erase any doubts he had about the purpose of his existence. Even after discovering that Shadow was created with Black Doom's DNA, Maria never stopped loving him, believing that his actions are what define him. Maria was the most important person in Shadow's life, mainly for her support when he had doubts. Shadow trusted Maria enough to share his doubts and inner conflicts with her, mainly about the purpose of his existence. Maria, in turn, always comforted and reassured Shadow when he doubted himself. She also always defended him from anyone who insulted him, such as Abraham or Black Doom.

History/Relationships

According to Commander Tower and Rouge, Maria was the only person who could calm Shadow down and convince him not to do something. This claim was later supported by the fact that Maria convinced Shadow to let her and Gerald return to their own time. Shadow was visibly distressed, but he complied with her wishes and chose not to stop them from disappearing. She is by far the person who made Shadow the happiest, and they shared the same dream: to visit Earth. Unfortunately, Maria was shot and killed by G.U.N., who considered Project Shadow too great a threat to the world. They eliminated everything they could related to the project, including the people aboard the ARK. Ultimately, Maria's love for Shadow led her to sacrifice her life and her dream of visiting Earth to save him from the G.U.N. military. Even as she lay dying, Maria's only thoughts were for Shadow to fulfill his purpose, and she begged him to do it for her, knowing that he could make their dreams come true for her. Her final words of farewell were "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog."

History/Relationships

Maria's death traumatized Shadow and he mourned her deeply. So far, Maria is the only person Shadow has shed tears for. This happened during both the Space Colony ARK and Time Eater incidents. Shadow's love for Maria and his sadness at losing her were so great that he swore revenge on all of humanity for what happened to her. But after remembering Maria's true desire to protect people and give them a chance to live happily, Shadow joined forces with Sonic and his friends to stop the destruction of the world and even sacrificed himself to fulfill her wish, though he survived in the end. Even after he lost his memory, Maria was the only thing Shadow could truly remember. By the end of Shadow the Hedgehog, he is leaving his tragic past behind, though he continues to save the world in her name.

According to an interview, Shadow stated that if he could change one thing about his past, it would be to give up his life for Maria's. This shows that Shadow still places Maria's feeling above his own no matter how painful it would be for him.

50 years ago, Emerl and Shadow first met and fought each other on the Space Colony ARK, when Shadow went to save Gerald from being hurt. After the strugle, Shadow saved his creator, and Emerl was locked away.

Shadow feels that he and Emerl are similar both in personality and what their hearts desire. They were both created and discovered by Gerald Robotnik, respectively, and Shadow felt a connection to Emerl. He initially told Sonic that Emerl was meant to be a weapon of war, yet Rouge stated that Emerl still has feelings for living beings, feelings that he can understand.

History/Relationships

Shadow's relationship with the Biolizard has changed drastically throughout his adventures. When they seemingly first met during the Space Colony ARK incident, Shadow showed no remorse to the Biolizard, even calling it an "ugly prototype" after beating the tortured creature into submission.

Later, during their second encounter, Shadow showed much more pity for the Biolizard, calling it a "tortured soul" and declaring that he would end its suffering, even encouraging it not to exert itself during their battle. Still, he did not hesitate to clash with the Biolizard once it showed aggression. It should be noted that this was only the case in the English version of Shadow Generations: The Japanese version had him retaining his overall contempt for the Biolizard during the second encounter.

Gerald Robotnik's grandson, Dr. Eggman is one of Shadow's worst enemies, and the two have opposed each other at several points. Their first meeting was during the Space Colony ARK incident, where the scientist liberated Shadow from his stasis capsule on Prison Island, thus making the latter grant him one wish in gratitude. In reality, Shadow used his creator's grandson's ambitions to carry his revenge against the world for Maria's death. The hedgehog would stick with Eggman for the remainder of that incident, until his supposed death after defeating the Finalhazard with Super Sonic. In the aftermath, the one who rescued Shadow turned out to be none other than Eggman himself, who later put him in a stasis capsule in one of his bases. Following Shadow's unexpected release, Eggman would take advantage of his amnesia to gaslight him into believing that he was just a copy of himself and that the real Shadow was dead to turn him back to his side.

History/Relationships

After the Black Arms incident, Shadow became another thorn in Eggman's side, despite not being an intermediate member of Sonic's group of friends. It is proven that the black hedgehog cares very little about the doctor's safety if it has nothing to do with him or his teammates, but will nevertheless team up with him if a greater threat arises. In truth though, he just does not like it when anyone, the scientist included, does something he sees as foolish or harmful, causing him to go against him if needed. Shadow sees Eggman as a menace to the world, despite working with him in the past. After the events of the Eggman War, Shadow spent a month searching for him to finish him off before he could be a threat. Once he found him as the amnesiac Mr. Tinker, Shadow was prepared to kill him until Sonic appealed to his merciful nature. Shadow would regret showing leniency towards the doctor once he returned to his old self, and after the Metal Virus was destroyed, Shadow would once again look to fighting off the Eggman Empire by himself.

History/Relationships

Shadow and Sonic the Hedgehog are both rivals and allies, as well as the virtual equal of one another. At first, Shadow tried to disregard Sonic, believing him to be a "fake hedgehog", but Sonic's quips quickly sparked a mutual rivalry between the two throughout Sonic Adventure 2. Throughout the game, the feats that Sonic accomplished, such as surviving Eggman's death trap, and learning Chaos Control, impressed Shadow, and he began to respect Sonic, giving him his props and asking for his identity before the final battle between the two began. Since meeting each other, their rivalry has developed, and while it is now usually friendly, thanks to Shadow's reformation, the two can still occasionally be at odds. When they first met, Shadow believed Sonic to have been copying him, and vice-versa from Sonic. He temporarily had this belief in Sonic Heroes as well, though this was largely because of his amnesia, which caused him to forget about their past alliance. Shadow and Sonic's conflicts tend to occur due to the fact that, though their goals tend to align, their views on justice, morality, and how to act on them can sometimes differ. Their disagreements sometimes turn into bitter fights. Shadow admits no hesitation in opposing Sonic, like he would with Eggman, if he deems him a foolish individual who thinks he can do whatever he pleases. In a sense, the two hedgehogs are polar opposites in every way... except, their appearance and goals.

History/Relationships

Despite their differences, Shadow and Sonic have helped each other out on several occasions and clearly care about each other to some extent. Shadow helped Sonic defeat Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes, allied himself and Rouge with Team Sonic to return both teams to their proper time period, and saved the blue hedgehog from Silver the Hedgehog's second attempt on his life in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). He showed actual grief when Sonic died at the hands of Mephilis and stated to Silver that they cannot defeat Solaris without his help. In the Nintendo DS version of Sonic Colors, he clearly shows some concern for Sonic's safety as well. Additionally, he helped motivate Sonic to defeat the Time Eater during that incident and attended Sonic's birthday party afterward despite his grief from his own White Space incident. He seemed concerned for Sonic when Infinite mentioned that he would use his newfound power against him and raced to save him at the beginning in Sonic Forces, but he was unfortunately too late. Shadow later succeeded in saving Sonic from a Phantom Copy of himself in Sunset Heights, despite the blue hedgehog's initial suspicions about the situation, and they fought alongside each other for the rest of the war. In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, when Sonic was found tranquilized with a dropping heart rate, Shadow helped Vector the Crocodile get him into a comfortable position and nurse him back to health, again showing a genuine concern for his rival's well-being. Overall, while the two still are at odds because of their conflicting views, there is also a mutual respect between them. They are both willing to put their differences aside for the greater good and help each other when needed. In recent games, Shadow is more confident about Sonic doing what is right, and Sonic has more faith in Shadow's choices as well.

History/Relationships

If there is one thing that can be said about Shadow and Sonic, it is that they are some of the only people who can get up close and personal with each other. Because of the high performance of both Shadow and Sonic in terms of their physical abilities and their thoughts, there are not many who can keep up with them. Also, there are fewer still of the ones who, despite their rejection, are able to persist, to offer opinions, to meddle, or to stand in their way and try to stop each other like those two can. In fact, Sonic is perhaps the only person who can get so up close and personal with Shadow as he can say something to him that reaches his heart (though it often does not). In a sense, Sonic's kind of presence is troublesome to Shadow, but it is also one of the most important ones. They help each other grow and push them to be better. However, while Sonic is receptive to hearing things that strike a little close to home, from Shadow's point of view, Sonic is a real pain. Regardless of much of an impact they each have on each other, the two of them both share the philosophy of following their hearts' desires, which makes them collide with each other, cross paths with each other, and sometimes alternate between allies and enemies. Despite their uneasy relationship, Shadow is willing to put aside his annoyance towards Sonic in some situations and help him; he just does not want to dwell on his motivations for doing so later on. Shadow has also been known to listen to Sonic's advice and arguments, and he even ponders about them more deeply at times, knowing that as the ultimate lifeform, he cannot allow himself to make mistakes. Shadow has even admitted in Twitter Takeovers that he no longer feels any hate toward Sonic and can enjoy spending time with him.

History/Relationships

Rouge the Bat is one of Shadow's closest friends and companions. The two are teammates in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, and they often work together during mission stages. Despite the fact that the pair have not casually spent much time together, they still greatly appreciate and respect one another. Rouge and Omega are shown to be the two who Shadow cares about and appreciates the most. Rouge is certainly one of, if not the closest person for Shadow to interact with. Shadow was implied to have at least heard of her before their formal meeting onboard the Space Colony ARK, as Shadow responds: "Now I know who you are! You're that government spy, Rouge the Bat, aren't you!" when stumbling upon her true intentions at the controls of the Eclipse Cannon. In Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow saved her life when Rouge was trapped in Security Hall, though when she questioned him about his actions later aboard the ARK, he told her he only returned for the Chaos Emeralds that she had acquired. However, it is still unknown if he didn't lie; Rouge teased that this wasn't "the whole story." Their conversation was then interrupted by Dr. Eggman. It's also implied via the repeated images of Maria during that time that he saved Rouge partly because he compared Rouge's situation to that of Maria's last moments. In Sonic Heroes, Shadow saves Rouge from Omega's fire even when not remembering her. Later, when they find a broken Shadow Android, Rouge looks over to Shadow with pity and asks, "Shadow...?" in a sympathetic mannerism, while he simply dismisses the situation. Later, when Rouge mentioned intending to steal Knuckles' Master Emerald, Shadow replied "Some things never change, do they?", implying that he regained enough of his memory to remember her rivalry with Knuckles' Master Emerald.

History/Relationships

In Sonic Battle, Rouge lets Shadow stay with her at Club Rouge when he is injured during a fight at the Gimme Shelter. When Shadow is dreaming and an image of Rouge appears and he whispers, "Ally." After he regains consciousness Rouge seems somewhat offended when he does not thank her for helping him. Upon finding out she saved him, Shadow thanks her. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Shadow shows he is protective of Rouge's well-being. He showed this once when catching her from a fall after she was momentarily knocked out by one of Dr. Eggman's robots, and again when he jumps in front of her after Iblis takes them all by surprise. When Omega reveals to Shadow that he is the one who traps him in the future; Rouge tells Shadow, "Even if you believe the entire world will be against you, know that I will always remain by your side... Remember that..." Shadow pauses, then strongly replies, "I will." However, this event was erased along with the rest of the events within the game after the "future was reversed." Nonetheless, it is implied in Sonic Forces that she ultimately stayed true to that claim and maintained contact with Shadow while he was still assumed to have gone rogue due to his Phantom Copy. This is evidenced by how when reconvening with Rouge, he asks her about whether she found what he had requested earlier. In Sonic Rivals, after Shadow saves Rouge from Eggman Nega, Rouge tries to convince him to going treasure hunting with her and suggests the two "take a peek" into their own future using Eggman Nega's device. Shadow declines and the story ends with Rouge still trying to convince Shadow to join her in hunting for the remaining cards.

History/Relationships

In Sonic Rivals 2, their encounter was less than friendly from their previous ones to separate the fact their overall relationship seems to be more partner-focused when they ally for the occasion. Shadow is consistently trying to stop Rouge and Knuckles from reaching the Chaos Emeralds at all costs, seeking to manipulate the Chaos-tracking device from Rouge. Rouge tells Shadow that he can trust her and Shadow tells her about the Ifrit. When Rouge mentions her client, Shadow demands to know who her client is, but Rouge refuses against him, leading him to yell after for her to, "get back here." When Shadow catches up to her, Rouge still refuses to tell him about her client as Shadow mildly threatens her, and then she trips him over and replies that he was being "clumsy," and he growls, "Why you...!" The conversation then devolves into a fight between the two, proving that although they may be on good terms sometimes, that does not mean that they let each other get in the way of their goals. In Sonic Free Riders, both Shadow and Rouge appear as Team Dark along with E-10000B. Their main focus during the game is winning the treasure and prize money. Unlike in previous games, Shadow seems perfectly content with helping Rouge obtain the treasure she covets. Even though they would be considered closer than any of Shadow's other allies, he rarely spends time with her outside of their missions. Rouge has come to understand Shadow's dislike for wasting time but becomes annoyed by his often disregard for caution and lack of planning when handling situations on his own. Shadow also has a habit of not always listening to Rouge while on missions in spite of Rouge's good intentions for him. Sometimes, however, Rouge is the only one who can reason with him.

History/Relationships

Shadow has been known to trust Omega as a partner in his missions, though with a mutual understanding of both of them being seen as weapons used for destruction. However, their relationship goes beyond their seemingly gruff, aloof, and mighty exteriors, revealing a trusting, mutual friendship between the two. As stated by Rouge, the two "go together like chili and hot dogs." This relationship is first shown when Shadow looks out for Omega in Sonic Heroes halfway into the game. This was also shown in Shadow the Hedgehog when Shadow willingly helped Omega in Iron Jungle and Lava Shelter. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Shadow is the one who first spots the deactivated Omega, 200 years into the future. Shadow shows real sadness at the sight of this, as Rouge has to force him to continue moving. Both Shadow and Rouge were somewhat saddened by Omega being reprogrammed to hunt down Shadow in the future, due to Shadow being seen as too strong of a lifeform, causing humanity to fear him. Eventually, by the time of arriving in White Space, Omega would admit he likes Shadow due to his merciless and pragmatic way of dealing with things, and additionally confess that he's found his time with Rouge and Shadow to be "agreeable", despite trust not coming easy for the bot. Before Shadow's confrontation with Black Doom, Omega voices a complete belief in Shadow to win. He knows he can count on Omega to do his job to the best of his ability, leaving the two on good terms allowing them to get along quite well and coordinate in the fight. Shadow even later trusts Omega with the safety of Gerald and Maria despite knowing how much Omega loathes the idea of not being able to fight, yet Omega accomplishes this task to the letter despite some brief disapproval. Though Omega feels the same way about Shadow and voices trust in him, however, he will not hesitate to fight Shadow should he become hostile; when Shadow became a Zombot, Omega was ready to subdue him.

History/Relationships

Black Doom is Shadow's greatest enemy by far. The relationship between the two may have been brief, but it has played a significant role in Shadow's life. Shadow was made from Black Doom's blood, in a deal between the alien and Professor Gerald; this technically makes Black Doom Shadow's biological father. Black Doom constantly follows Shadow throughout the game, trying to get him to see what he believed to be the truth about humanity and that they needed to be punished. Even after Shadow opposes him several times, Black Doom will still insist on trying to get Shadow to join him, turn on humanity and see things his way. Regardless of the path taken during gameplay, Shadow defeats Black Doom and destroys the Black Comet along with the Black Arms. Throughout the events of Shadow the Hedgehog, Black Doom cares nothing about him and is only interested in his power. He also shows strong disapproval and demands extreme loyalty and respect from him, especially when he shows opposition to him. He also doesn't tolerate any kind of mistake or failure, no matter how difficult the task on Shadow's part may be. In the end, Shadow refused to aid him and decided to put an end to his biological father and his "offspring" after learning of the nature of his plans. In Shadow Generations, still intent on having Shadow aid him in delivering the "Promised Time" to him, he forcibly imbues Shadow with Doom Powers, crafting Shadow into the "perfect warrior" so he claim his mind, body and soul and become perfect as well. His plan, however, marks his total demise when Shadow grows too strong for him to handle, and Black Doom was destroyed once and for all by his biological son.

History/Relationships

Mephiles the Dark is one of Shadow's deadliest enemies. When they first met, Shadow, due to not having sealed Mephiles away yet at that time, expressed a sense of familiarity despite not knowing who he was, before Mephiles sent him to the future. In Shadow's second meeting with Mephiles, he tried to convince Shadow to turn against humanity, but Shadow refused. After the battle, Shadow tried to collect some information about Mephiles to stop him, which led him to investigate Mephiles' origin at the Solaris Project ten years ago. There, Shadow sealed Mephiles in the Scepter of Darkness shortly after his birth, where Mephiles swore that he would remember Shadow and that he would kill him. This made Shadow realize how Mephiles knew him and why he was obsessed with him. Shadow later faced Mephiles in Dusty Desert where Mephiles tried to convince him to join his cause, but Shadow saw through his deceit and proclaimed he knew that Mephiles only craved destruction. After Shadow failed to seal Mephiles, Mephiles tried to confuse him by asking why he wanted to save humanity when they would persecute him, but Shadow proclaimed he would always keep fighting. Solaris and Mephiles were both later erased from existence, resulting in the erasure of Shadow's relationship with Mephiles. During the Time Eater incident, Shadow found Mephiles but because he was erased from history, the black hedgehog didn't even know who he was, though nevertheless resolved to stop him due to sensing him to be a threat and when Mephiles was defeated, Shadow told him that there was no future for him.

History/Relationships

Shadow and Silver the Hedgehog have a complex relationship, respecting one another's abilities while maintaining a stubborn rivalry. The two first met during the Solaris incident, when Shadow stopped Silver, who mistook him for Mephiles, from killing Sonic. After their fight, Shadow invited Silver to travel back in time via Dual Chaos Control to learn the truth about Iblis, Mephiles, and the Solaris Project. Shadow seemed impressed by Silver's powers and determination; more specifically how he was able to induce Chaos Control. Keeping in mind that Shadow rarely concerns himself with others and prefers to work alone, it is notable how quickly he took Silver under his wing to set him on the correct path. When they reunite in Last Episode, Shadow accepts Silver's plan to defeat Solaris at all points in time, only noting they would need Sonic's help to do so.

Since the events regarding Solaris were erased, Silver and Shadow would not meet again until their encaounter on Onyx Island in Sonic Rivals. At first, Shadow did not trust Silver's intentions for Dr. Eggman nor his speculation regarding his identity, repeatedly defending the doctor from him. After realizing that he was right, the two helped each other in the Meteor Base. During the the events of Sonic Rivals 2, however, they are not allies despite both knowing Eggman Nega is the true mastermind yet again; they fight each other at some points due to Silver's intolerance for interference and both choosing not to convey their goals. In Shadow Generations, Shadow is reminded of Silver when speaking to Gerald about the effects of time travel.

History/Relationships

Initially, Shadow did not hate humanity and promised his best friend Maria to give them a chance to live happy lives. However, his opinion about them changed after G.U.N. killed Maria and he came to loathe humanity itself for what they did to her. After his reawakening, the hedgehog planned to destroy humanity, thinking he had promised his friend revenge against them for her death. However, when he remembered his true promise, he cast aside his vendetta and risked his life to save humanity. After becoming amnesiac, Shadow did not care for humanity, even regarding them as pathetic and held no sympathy towards them. However, when he regained some of his memories, he once again chose to protect humanity to keep his promise to Maria, out of his own volition. He has as well gained his own desire to bring hope to humanity, though he has misgivings about them and holds a personal dislike towards them. In his encounters with Mephiles during the Solaris incident, the hedgehog proclaimed that if someday the world chooses to become his enemy, then he will fight like he always has, showing that it is up to humanity to decide whether he is their enemy or not.

History/Relationships

Miles "Tails" Prower and Shadow were at first enemies in Sonic Adventure 2 because Shadow was impersonating Sonic and got him thrown in jail on Prison Island. Towards the end of the game, they became allies when they had to save the planet from the Space Colony ARK. For the most part Shadow and Tails' relationship seems to depend on their goals, especially due to the latter being the closest ally of Sonic, Shadow's antithesis. The two are on opposing sides in Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Rivals 2. In Sonic Heroes they fought very briefly because Shadow and Rouge had provoked Team Sonic into fighting them; Tails, in possible concern for his amnesia, asked Shadow if he remembered them. In Sonic Battle, Shadow and Tails fought at the end of Tails' Story because Tails resisted giving up Emerl to Shadow. Shadow threatened Tails that he would have to give Emerl up or else they would fight for him, Tails admitted that he admires Shadow's spirit but would not give up in a fight. When Tails won the fight, Shadow warned him that he would be back again to get Emerl, but Rouge showed up and told Shadow to go back to Night Babylon. In Sonic Rivals 2. Shadow and Metal Sonic confronted Tails and Sonic because they were all going after Eggman.
