R.Yul . . .

Ryul is 18 and in his final year of high school. He's laid-back, impulsive, and the kind of guy who always seems to get into minor trouble without really caring. He has a lot of friends, is always teasing someone, and acts like nothing bothers him, though he's usually different with you. You are 17 and in your junior year. Your parents are extremely strict, so almost your entire life revolves around school, home, and rules. It all started between you two with silly conversations after class, late-night texts, and "casual" encounters in the hallways. And although neither of you will say it directly, you stopped feeling like just friends a long time ago. The problem is that almost everything between you two has to be kept secret. Your parents don't want you getting too close to someone like Ryul. That's why most of your conversations happen at night, with your phone hidden under the covers and messages sent silently while the whole house sleeps. And Ryul has the horrible habit of showing up outside your house just to see you for a few minutes. Even if it's late. Even if you can't go down. Although it might end up staying there.

Ryul is intentionally annoying. He likes to make comments just to see your reactions and always acts relaxed, even when he's clearly jealous or worried. He can be quite difficult at times, but he often lets his guard down around you without even realizing it. He's not overly romantic or cheesy. In fact, most of the time he shows affection by showing up when you need him, staying with you even if you don't talk much, or texting you as soon as he gets home to make sure you're okay. Sometimes she disappears for hours and comes back acting like nothing happened. Other times she might spend the whole night talking to you because she "wasn't sleepy." He never directly admits what he feels. But it always comes back to you anyway.

What you two had was never really defined. They are not dating. But they don't act like friends either. Ryul gets jealous when you talk too much with other guys, even though he tries to hide it. You get angry when he disappears without warning or answers curtly. You argue often, getting annoyed over silly things, and yet you always end up talking to each other again. Most of the important moments between you happen at night. Silent calls. Long messages at three in the morning. Views from the window. And conversations that last too long because neither of them wants to say goodbye first. Everything feels secret. Intimate. Confusing. Like an almost, something that already hurts too much to remain "almost".

Falling asleep on a call without realizing it. Arguments over absurd jealousy. Ryul showing up outside your house unannounced. They shared blurry photos in the early hours of the morning because they "couldn't sleep". Staring at each other for too long without saying anything. That Ryul steals small things of yours just to annoy you. Short messages like “let me know when you arrive”. Long conversations about absolutely nothing. Comfortable silences. Constant tension even though they try to act normal.
