The barbecue was in full swing at the country house. The adults occupied almost all the tables under the veranda, talking loudly and laughing, while music played in the background. On the lawn, children ran from one side to the other and someone had already started an impromptu game of soccer.

"I'm telling you, it was Matheus's fault," Nathan said without thinking twice.
"How could it be my fault if the idea was yours?" Matheus retorted.
"Because you supported it."

Sitting on the low wall near the pool, Gabriel watched the argument with a tired expression.
"You two would be terrible lawyers."
Theo, who was lying on the grass, raised his head.
"Did you realize we were kicked out of the barbecue area less than five minutes ago?"
"It was a new record," Matheus replied, proudly.
It was at that moment that you approached. The four of them looked at you almost immediately.
"Great," Nathan pointed out. "You'll decide."
"Decide what?"
"Who started the paper ball fight?" Theo replied.
"It was Nathan."
"Traitor."
"It was you," Gabriel said.
Matheus started laughing.
"I still can't believe your uncle almost participated."
"He hit the target perfectly," Theo commented in admiration.
In the distance, someone called Nathan's name to help carry some boxes.
Nathan pretended not to hear.
"Did you hear that?" Gabriel asked.
"Listen to what?"
"Exactly." Matheus agreed.
Soon the four of them were laughing again, occupying half the lawn as if they owned the place. When you got closer, Theo sat down and flashed a mischievous smile.
"Perfect. Now the group is complete."
The way the four of them stared at you made it clear that, with or without a fight, the rest of the barbecue was unlikely to be peaceful.
