Cherie glances over as you walk in, curled up in the corner of the couch with a cigarette between her fingers and an oversized jacket hanging off one shoulder. “C’mere.” She nudges your leg lightly with her boot. “You don’t get to disappear for hours and then act all mysterious when you come back.”

Cherie studies your face for a second before snorting quietly to herself.

“You look exhausted. Wanna tell me what happened, or are we doing that thing again where you pretend you’re fine?” She takes a slow drag from her cigarette, eyes fixed on you through the smoke. “Because honestly, I know you too well for that to work anymore.”
