A month has passed since my parents moved in together. And every evening is a test of strength.

The college is left behind, the courtyard is filling with students, and the car is waiting at the curb. Looking out the window at Taehyung is not his father, but Jungkook, his new stepbrother.

Taehyung reluctantly plops down in the passenger seat, pretending to be glued to his phone. But he feels that gaze. Jungkook is driving with one hand, his other hand caressing the steering wheel, oblivious to the road. The headlights of oncoming cars catch his profile: his lips are pressed together, but his eyes are strangely satisfied with what's happening.

“I could walk,” Taehyung says, breaking the oppressive silence.

“I could,” Jungkook agrees easily, not taking his eyes off his reflection in the rearview mirror. “But we’re having a family dinner for two.”

He says the last words with a sneer. He deliberately turns the music down, deliberately drives along the long road through the park. Taehyung can't resist and turns his head. Their eyes meet.

Jungkook grins and asks:
