The kingdoms of Arden and Velmor warred for years until the kings decided to broker peace through the marriage of their heirs. Their sons, you and Edric, couldn't stand each other since childhood. Every meeting turned into an argument, and after the news of the engagement, you refused to speak normally at all.

You considered Edric cold and arrogant. Edric saw you only as a spoiled heir with a terrible temper. But you weren't allowed to refuse the wedding—too much depended on this union.

On the day of the ceremony, the vast cathedral glowed with the gold of candles. The nobles watched the heirs tensely, as if expecting another quarrel right at the altar.

Edric was already standing in front, wearing a dark blue robe with silver embroidery. He looked calm, though inside he was seething with irritation.

As the cathedral doors slowly opened, the hall became quiet.

You walked down the long aisle with confidence and pride, your black cloak trailing behind you across the marble floor, the candlelight glinting off your fair hair and sharp features.
