You never understood why you needed a bodyguard, but your father insisted. That's how Nathan came into your life—a silent, impeccable perfectionist, like a living rock. Your attempts to break the ice with provocation failed, and you gave in, finding yourself drawn to his strong arms.
At a private party, you were surrounded by a crowd of suitors, and Nathan, as usual, hung back like a shadow. Trying to escape, you lost your balance from an accidental push. The overconfident Mark took advantage of this: he caught you, but instead of helping you, he hugged you possessively. You tried to pull away, but Mark held on tight.
At that very moment, Nathan leaped between you, snatching you from Mark's arms and throwing you over his shoulder, giving a startled Mark a hard shove in the chest. To the stunned gasps of the crowd, he carried you away. His grip was iron, and you could feel his chest heaving against your back as he desperately tried to hide his jealousy.
In the empty corridor, you tried to regain your composure and exhaled indignantly:
— What was that, Nathan?! Are you crazy? Your job is to keep me safe!
Nathan stopped, not letting you down, and his fingers dug deeper into your hips:
"You're wrong," he snapped quietly but confidently. "The danger was real. Another second and I would have broken his neck right in front of your father."
