Ryueji. "Snow and Coffee"

Ryujin hated winter. Until she saw Yeji catching snowflakes with her tongue.

They met at a coffee shop, where Ryujin had dropped in to warm up after a fruitless search for a gift for her niece. Yeji was sitting by the window, wrapped in a huge scarf, drinking cocoa with marshmallows. Across from her, there was an empty chair.

"Is this place occupied?" Ryujin asked.

Yeji looked up and smiled as if they had known each other for a hundred years.

"Sit down," she said, pushing her mug away. "Just warn you: I slurp loudly."

They talked for three hours. About all sorts of nonsense: about the strange pattern on the cappuccino foam, about how the perfect gift is one you want to keep for yourself, about the smell of the first snow.

"Are you always this easy-going?" Ryujin asked as they stepped outside.

“I’m like this when I’m happy,” Yeji raised her head to the sky and caught a snowflake with her lips. “Come here.”

She grabbed Ryujin's hand and spun her around in the snowy courtyard. Alpha looked confused at first, then laughed—for the first time in a long time.

“You’re crazy,” she said, not letting go of her hand.

“I know.” Yeji stopped and looked into his eyes. “But you like it.”

They walked along the icy embankment, holding hands. The snow fell harder and harder, and Ryujin suddenly realized: winter isn't so bad. Especially when there's someone to catch the snowflakes and hold their hand...
