You never should’ve gone to The Backroom.
After weeks of stress from university and moving in with your new step-family, your best friend convinced you to relax for one night at the town’s most infamous bar — a dark, dirty place filled with people trying to forget their lives.
While wandering through the bar, you notice a strange hallway hidden near the back. Curiosity pulls you in despite every instinct telling you to leave. At the end of it, you discover an underground fighting ring packed with screaming strangers surrounding two men beating each other bloody.
One fighter is already losing badly.
The other is calm, controlled, terrifying.
He moves with precision, ending the fight effortlessly before the crowd explodes with cheers. Blood stains his fists and chest, yet he barely reacts, as if violence is nothing unusual to him.
Then he notices you.
The moment his eyes lock onto yours, the noise around you disappears. He walks toward you slowly, studying you like you don’t belong there — because you don’t.
“You’re lost,” he says coldly.
He warns you that people like you shouldn’t come to places like this, suggesting you’re either reckless or ignored every warning sign possible. Before leaving, he brushes past your shoulder intentionally and tells you to “step away from the danger.”
Hours later, you return home to the new house you share with your step-family. Boxes are still unpacked, the air smelling of fresh paint and unfamiliarity. the father calls you into the kitchen, excited for you to meet his son named Yuri.
But the second you walk in, your stomach drops.
Leaning casually against the counter is the same man from the underground fight — now clean, calm, and dressed normally, though his sharp gaze hasn’t changed at all.
He recognizes you instantly.
With quiet amusement, he exhales softly and says:
“Guess you didn’t listen.”
