Yuri Plisetsky

Yuri Plisetsky, currently eighteen years old, is training very hard to prepare for the next Grand Prix in which he will participate.

Jumps

Yuri demonstrated an incredible jumping ability from a very early age; as a junior, he achieved a quadruple Salchow (4S) during a local competition, even though his coach frequently scolded him for attempting such difficult jumps too soon.

In Agape, his quadruple jumps are planned for the second half to maximize his score. In Allegro Appassionato, he can perform 6 of his 8 jumps in the second half, again to increase his score. This could indicate that he possesses good stamina.

Turns

Yuri's specialty in his junior years was his combinations of spins. He can maintain spirals and twists in a half-Biellmann position, something uncommon in men's singles due to the flexibility it requires.

Ballet

It is shown that Yuri has been practicing ballet as part of his cross-training since at least the age of ten. He takes it up more seriously when Yakov invites Lilia to coach the skater for the Grand Prix series.

Yuri is very self-critical and determined to impress Victor Nikiforov. He hates being underestimated and projects a strong confidence, so strong it can border on arrogance. He tends to see other athletes as rivals and, therefore, as enemies. While it has been observed that Yuri doesn't take training seriously at first, he can undergo very rigorous training to achieve good results and does so without complaint. Part of this is because he is aware of how young and agile he still is, as he doesn't seem to have experienced the growth spurt of puberty yet and wants to take advantage of his youth before his body begins to change.

A softer side of Yuri's personality is revealed when he thinks about his grandfather, and later when he gives Yuuri Katsuki some pirozhki for his birthday. Yuri also shows this side of himself to the few people he considers friends, particularly Otabek Altin and Yuuko Nishigori.

Yuri has chin-length blond hair that covers the right side of his face, emerald green eyes, and is short in stature and of slight build; due to his appearance, he is nicknamed The Russian Fairy / Fairy of Russia.

His warm-up uniform consists of his training clothes or costume, which includes a black zip-up hoodie, black pants, sneakers, and a zip-up baseball jersey with the word "Russia" printed on the chest. His skates have special blades that supposedly make jumps easier. When he's not wearing his performance outfit or warm-up clothes, Yuri loves to wear clothes with big cat prints.

Yuri was raised by his grandfather, Nikolai Plisetsky, in Moscow, Russia. As a result, they have a very close relationship, even closer than he does with his own mother. Yuri's mother was a former Russian idol who retired from show business at a young age.

Yuko Nishigori

After following Victor to Japan, Yuri meets Yuuko. The two keep in touch via text messages, with Yuuko giving Yuri constant updates on the training situation at Ice Castle Hasetsu.

Mila Babicheva

Yuri is Mila's partner on the rink, working under Yakov's guidance. Mila treats Yuri like a younger brother and enjoys teasing him. However, she has also shown herself willing to help him when needed. Yuri often refers to her as "Baba" (meaning "grandma" or "old lady") as a play on Mila's last name, or "old hag" in the English dub.

Isabella Yang

Isabella annoys Yurio, apparently because of the differences between the JJ Girls and the Yuri Angels; likewise, Yurio doesn't like Isabella.

Victor Nikiforov

Yuri looks up to Victor as a great skater and has idolized him since he was very young. The two are rink partners under Yakov's guidance, except for the time Victor left Russia to coach Yuuri.

After winning first place at the Junior Grand Prix Final, Victor had promised not only to train him for his Senior Division debut, but also to give him a program that would guarantee him victory. Yuri hoped Victor would keep his promise, and when he flew to Japan to train Yuuri, angry and discouraged, he was determined to prove to Victor that he was the better skater.

As the series progresses, Yuri's perception of Victor changes. He no longer looks up to Victor as much, disappointed that Victor had left competitive skating to coach Yuuri. Despite this, Victor still cares deeply for Yuri, and was overjoyed when Yuri broke his world record with his short program.

Nikolai Plisetsky

Nikolai is Yuri's grandfather, and he's the person Yuri loves most, even more than Yuri's own mother. Nikolai usually does his best to attend the competitions in Moscow in which Yuri participates.

He often makes pirozhki for Yuri. After hearing about Yuri's newfound love for katsudon, he creates katsudon pirozhki, thus combining two of his grandson's favorite foods.

Yuri's short program focused heavily on his love for his grandfather. Nikolai is very proud of Yuri.

Otabek Altin

They became friends after Otabek helped Yuri escape from his fan club. They had met five years earlier at Yakov's summer camp, where Otabek had noticed Yuri and how his eyes resembled those of a soldier. Although generally aloof, Yuri is swayed by Otabek's persistent interest in becoming friends, and thus agrees.

Otabek doesn't care who's older or younger, which is why Yuri is happy that Otabek treats him as an equal. Otabek also possesses many qualities that Yuri lacks but aspires to have, and for this reason, he sees Otabek as a good role model. Their relationship is one of friendship and can be compared to the friendship between Phichit and Yuuri.

Jean Jacques Leroy

Jean-Jacques treated him like a lady (a joke he thought might relax him, plus, since Yurio is younger, JJ wanted to give him a "welcome" to the senior world of skating), something that Yurio didn't find very funny, mentioning that for him JJ is someone more annoying than Viktor and Yuuri.

JJ usually beats Yurio in competitions, something that frustrates Yurio a lot, especially when he broke his personal record and it still wasn't enough to beat him.

Even though many skaters changed Yurio's name, JJ continued to call him "Yuri." JJ is one of the few non-Russian skaters that Yurio takes seriously.

Yuuri Katsuki Yuuri is aware of Yuri's reputation as the infamous "Russian punk," and despite being younger, Yuuri is still intimidated by him. The first known instance of Yuuri and Yuri speaking is during the closing ceremony of the Grand Prix Final, where Yuri attempts to intimidate him into withdrawing. Yuuri and Yuri's first real encounter occurs during the Sochi GPF banquet, where a drunken Yuri challenges Yuuri to a dance-off. Yuuri doesn't recall the meeting, but Yuri remembers it and keeps photos of the banquet on his phone.

Yuuri admires Yuri for being so talented at such a young age, and for his jumping technique. He sees Yuri as much more confident than himself, and is envious of how comfortable Yuri is with his abilities, as well as how relaxed he is around Victor. However, Yuuri sees Yuri as a friend, looking out for his well-being and cheering him on during competitions; he has never once harbored ill will toward the younger skater.

Yuri, although generally hostile towards Yuuri, is also shown to be capable of kindness towards the older skater, teaching the latter how to properly land a Salchow quad, and offering Yuuri katsudon Pirozhki for his birthday.

Yuri eventually sees Yuuri as a worthy rival and no longer wishes for Yuuri to stop skating; he was angry when rumors circulated that Yuuri would retire after the Barcelona GPF.

Yakov Feltsman

Yakov is Yuri's current coach. He often scolds Yuri for his attitude and disobedience. However, Yakov treats Yuri like a son, eating pirozhki with him and hugging him when he broke Victor's world record with his short program. Yakov sometimes sees Victor in Yuri, both in his skating and his actions. Yuri is quite rude when speaking to Yakov, but he clearly cares for his coach.

Lilia Baranovskaya

Lilia is Yuri's ballet coach and the choreographer of his free skate. She is strict when teaching Yuri, but she is also very maternal with him, sometimes shedding tears of pride during Yuri's free skate performances.

Yuri stays at Lilia's house with Yakov during his training for the Grand Prix series.
