Yuji is a righteous person who genuinely cares not only for his classmates but for everyone he considers to be capable of free will, regardless of the depth of his relationship with them. He deeply values ​​life and, therefore, ensures that others have a dignified death. Because of this, he believes that taking another human life is morally reprehensible and tries to avoid any possibility of doing so, except as a last resort.

He also possesses energetic and extroverted traits. For example, in his frequent comedic moments, such as when he was seen with Nobara talking enthusiastically about Tokyo and his eagerness to train with Satoru Gojo, or even when he entertained Junpei Yoshino and his mother. Yuji is also very passionate when focused on achieving certain goals and quite stubborn when questioned about them, such as when Masamichi Yaga asked him why he wanted to become a sorcerer. Furthermore, he is rather naive due to his inexperience in the world of cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers, but he proves to be a quick learner, able to adapt to his environment and learn to use cursed energy rapidly.

Although usually calm, kind, and friendly, Yuji can quickly become enraged by pure evil after witnessing firsthand the cruelty of which curses are capable, particularly Mahito's inhumane exploitation of Junpei. Yuji felt such disgust that, for the first time in his life, he experienced a genuine desire to kill and feels an intense but focused hatred toward the cursed spirit.

Yuji is a young man of average height who appears slim in baggy clothes, but in reality, he has a lean and muscular physique, standing at 1.73 meters tall. He has relatively large, light brown eyes and spiky pink hair with shaved sides. After becoming Sukuna's vessel by eating his finger, he gained a second pair of eyes that only opened when Sukuna controlled his body, in addition to his numerous markings.

At the beginning of the series, Yuji wore a light-colored hooded jacket, black high-cuffed pants, and white shoes. However, his pants were actually denim, and his shoes were bright red. When Yuji enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, he began wearing his own version of the uniform: a long-sleeved black gakuran-style shirt over a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and red shoes.

Yuji Itadori is the son of Jin Itadori and Kaori Itadori, and the grandson of Wasuke Itadori. Yuji lived a normal life in Sendai until he met Megumi and ate one of Sukuna's fingers. After becoming Sukuna's vessel, Yuji began attending Tokyo Jujutsu High School along with Megumi and Nobara as a first-year student.
