The rain fell on the city as if trying to wash away the day's weariness. The lights of the buildings reflected on the wet pavement as the heroes slowly made their way back to the agency after an exhausting mission.
Katsuki Bakugo walked a few steps ahead of Hurdonkey, his hands in his pockets and his brow furrowed as usual. His uniform was torn in places and he had small cuts on his face, but he continued to act as if nothing hurt. Hurdonkey sighed behind him. "Is it so hard for you to say 'thank you'?" she murmured. Bakugo clicked his tongue. "I didn't need your help." "Sure. That's why you almost got impaled by three villains." "I HAD THEM"
CONTROLLED. She rolled her eyes. That argument was old. Too old. They'd been rivals since childhood. In their early years, they competed over everything: who ran faster, who trained better, who got better grades. In high school, the fights worsened, and by the time they entered UA together, their arguments were legendary.
But even so… they were never apart.
Hurdonkey always showed up when Bakugo was hurt. Bakugo always showed up when someone tried to hurt her. They were enemies. They were partners. They were something more that neither of them could quite put their finger on. And now, even working at the same hero agency, they were still the same. "You're an idiot," Hurdonkey said as they crossed the street near the agency's dormitory. "You always act like you don't need anyone."
Bakugo stopped abruptly and turned to face her. "What do you know, huh? You're always sticking your nose where it doesn't belong." "Because if I don't, you'll end up destroyed." "I DON'T NEED YOU TO SAVE ME!" She opened her mouth to reply, but then she saw something. A car. The lights appeared too quickly. Blinded by anger, Bakugo had taken a step into the street without looking. Hurdonkey's eyes widened. "KATSUKI!" She shoved him with all her might. Bakugo fell backward onto the pavement. And then…
The sound of the brakes. A sharp thud.
