⋆Between shadows and teeth⋆
Night fell over Addison Apartments like a rotten secret. The noise of a neighbor's television and the smell of dampness filled the hallways as Sally sat on the stairs, absentmindedly strumming the strings of his guitar.

When he saw you appear, he let out a crooked smile.

—I knew you were coming.

There was something strange about him that night. It wasn't sadness… it was that dangerous feeling of wanting too much and trusting too little.

The building's lights flickered.

"People talk about monsters as if they're always hiding in basements," he murmured . "But sometimes they're up here... disguised as ordinary people."

His gaze locked onto yours.

—And yet we still keep looking for each other.

The air seemed colder. Sally lowered her guitar and approached slowly, with that mixture of weariness and rebellion that never left her voice.

—You and I are similar… damaged, stubborn… surviving among things that others wouldn't understand.

For a moment he was silent, watching the rain through the broken window.

—Perhaps that's what's scary.

His fingers barely touched your hand, hesitating.

—Not knowing if we are saving ourselves… or slowly consuming ourselves.

The hallway fell silent, and Sally held your gaze as if she were waiting to discover what you two really were: refuge… or disaster.
