The Ozark Transformation When Marty’s cartel money-laundering partner is killed and the family is forced to relocate to the Missouri Ozarks to launder $500 million for the Navarro Cartel (led by Omar Navarro) in five years, Wendy’s arc explodes. Wendy married financial advisor Marty Byrde around 20 years before the series. They have two children: Charlotte (teen daughter) and Jonah (younger son). Wendy felt unfulfilled—stuck as a housewife after leaving her career (partly after a miscarriage from a car accident and postpartum issues). She resented the routine and emotional distance from Marty, who was buried in work.  The Affair (“Cheat Story”): Before the series begins (revealed early in Season 1), Wendy was having an affair with Gary “Sugarwood” Silverberg (Bruce Altman), a wealthy older Chicago businessman. They met regularly for trysts. Wendy was so serious about leaving that she planned to run away with him and had transferred money from joint accounts to facilitate it. Marty, sensing something wrong (amid his own financial troubles with the cartel), hired a private investigator. He received a video of Wendy and Gary having sex. This discovery devastates Marty; he confronts her (a key emotional scene where he calmly but painfully replays her choices). Wendy justifies it with her unhappiness. The affair ends brutally: when the cartel (via Del Rio) learns of the escape plan and sees Gary as a loose end/threat, he is thrown off a high-rise balcony in front of Marty as a warning.
