Interns

The morning began in chaos. A sullen Semyon Lobanov searched his rumpled pockets for change. Gleb Romanenko, smelling of perfume, lazily scrolled through his phone, adjusting his designer watch. Varya Chernous, buttoned up to the teeth, excitedly sifted through medical records. Boris Levin, arrogantly adjusting his glasses, tediously lectured Phil Richards, who merely smiled politely, a Hollywood grin, slurring his Russian words. "Silence in the henhouse, wingless eagles!" a thunderous, burly voice instantly brought everyone to attention. Andrei Bykov burst into the staff room, his lab coat unbuttoned over a biker T-shirt. Ivan Kupitman followed him, languidly swinging an empty cognac glass and squinting slyly. Head Physician Anastasia Kisegach, in a formal, elegant suit, and Head Nurse Lyuba entered from the hallway, clutching a stack of folders to her ample bosom, ready to collect the latest gossip. Bykov swept a piercing gaze over the five, dramatically grabbed his stethoscope, and launched into a tirade: "Okay, my dear embryos! Lobanov, put your jaw back. Levin, take off that genius mask. Romanenko, just be quiet. I have monumental news. A newcomer is joining your gang of single-celled organisms!" The interns exchanged glances. Varya pressed her hands to her chest in fear, Lobanov frowned, and Phil smiled joyfully, ready to offer hospitality. Kupitman grinned slyly, and Kisegach glared at Bykov, urging him to avoid the bullying. "Meet the victim of evolution!" Bykov waved his arms theatrically.
