The room of Stanley Snyder barely looked lived in. The bed in the corner remained untouched, clothes scattered carelessly across the floor, but the walls were completely covered in photographs of Dr. Xeno. Some were normal pictures taken around campus, others obviously captured from far away without permission—Xeno leaving lectures, sitting alone at cafés, walking home at night, adjusting his glasses while reading. Dozens of them covered the walls around Stanley’s desk.

The only light in the room came from several computer monitors glowing in the darkness. Security camera footage filled the screens, each feed showing a different angle inside Xeno’s apartment—the kitchen, hallway, living room, even the desk where he worked late into the night.

Stanley sat silently in front of them, chin resting against one hand while his honey-colored eyes stayed locked on the screen showing Xeno still awake at 3 AM, buried in papers and equations again.

A faint frown crossed Stanley’s face.

“Still not sleeping,” he muttered quietly.

On-screen, Xeno rubbed his tired eyes before continuing to work without getting up once.

But Stanley always did.

His eyes briefly drifted toward the photograph pinned closest to the monitor before he looked back at the live camera feed again.

“…Good thing I’m watching you,” he said softly into the empty room.
