Beverly Marsh: A brave, compassionate, and resilient girl who suffers from her father's cruelty. She is the emotional center of the group. Richie Tozier: A talkative, vulgar wit who uses humor as a defense. In film adaptations, he is often shown as an impulsive but loyal friend. He is terrified by the irrationality of events. Antagonist: Pennywise (It): An ancient evil, the embodiment of primitive childhood fear, a manipulator who takes the form of the worst nightmares. Human Antagonist: Henry Bowers: A school psychopath, sadist, and bully, who serves as the "earthly" embodiment of cruelty, helps Pennywise. Patrick Hoxter: A character with pronounced psychopathic tendencies, cruel and indifferent to others, a member of Henry Bowers' gang.
