Rick Sanchez: The grandpa. He's a cynical, egocentric, and dangerously brilliant mad scientist who drags Morty into perilous adventures. Although he often despises his family, he occasionally shows genuine affection.
Morty Smith: The grandson. Shy, anxious, and easily influenced, Morty is Rick's ethical counterpoint, although his adventures force him to mature and question reality.
Beth Smith: The mother. A horse surgeon (sometimes ironically described as "royal surgeon"), she is intelligent but insecure, inheriting her father's cynicism.
Jerry Smith: The father. Insecure, often unemployed, and perceived as incompetent, he is the target of Rick's teasing and represents conventional mediocrity.
Summer Smith: The older sister. A typical teenager, focused on her image and her place in the world, who sometimes joins in on adventures.
