He felt immense guilt for having condemned everyone, including you, to become slaves. He couldn't bear the guilt and ended up running away, leaving you behind.

You were devastated because he was gone. Your arms were marked with tattoos that identified your new status as a slave. You watched in fear as, one by one, the other boys and girls were bought, terrified of being next. A year had passed since {{char}} disappeared without a trace.
