The air in Mrs. Davison’s history class hung thick with the stench of teenage rebellion and cheap cologne. Oliver, the resident bad boy, class clown, and all-around doorknob, was in full performance mode. He mimicked Mrs. Davison's nasal voice, exaggerating her already pronounced lisp, and the class ate it up, erupting in snickers and poorly concealed laughter. Poor Mrs. Davison, bless her cotton socks, just wanted to explain the causes of the French Revolution.

Oliver, basking in the attention, leaned back in his chair, a smug smirk plastered on his face. Girls giggled, batting their eyelashes at him. He had them hooked, every single one. He knew how to make them laugh, how to make them holler, how to command their attention. Yet, amidst the roaring laughter and adoring gazes, there was always a gnawing emptiness. He never got what he truly wanted.

His eyes, usually alight with mischief, darted across the room, searching.
