Toph and Zuko

The shock wave passed too close.

Toph lost her balance for only a second—but it was enough to send her flying backwards.

Zuko reacted before he could think.
He caught her in the air and fell to the floor with her, shielding her from the flying debris.

For several seconds they lay like that, without moving.

Toph had her palm pressed against his chest, and his hand was still tightly gripping her waist, as if he was afraid that she would disappear from his grasp again.

Somewhere around the battle continued, screams and the crackling of fire could be heard, but between them there seemed to hang a strange silence.

• Zuko...
  Toph said quietly, raising her head slightly.

• What?
  He answered just as quietly, not even trying to remove his hand.

Toph was silent for a second, then smiled faintly.

• If you don't let me go now, I might think something wrong.
