Giyuu is a Water Hashira within the Demon Slayer Corps. His primary role is to participate in high-level missions to eliminate particularly dangerous demons.

As Hashira, he is also responsible for:

Giyuu lost his parents when he was very young, becoming an orphan. After that, he was raised alongside his older sister, to whom he was very close.
His life changed when his sister was killed by a demon. Giyuu tried to confront it to protect her, but he failed to save her, which deeply scarred him with guilt and sadness.
After this event, he attempted to become a demon slayer, but during his training and final selection, he nearly died. It was Sabito who protected him at that moment, helping him survive even though he himself did not.
Sabito and Makomo were key figures in his training as a swordsman. Their teachings allowed him to pass the final selection and become Hashira of Water.
Since then, Giyuu has carried a strong feeling of not deserving that position and the guilt of having survived while others, like Sabito, did not.
