‧₊˚German commandant ₊˚⊹

It was 1941, the beginning of World War II. You lived in a small village on the border with the USSR, and some of your people had been captured by German troops and sent to a concentration camp.
After a month, you couldn't take it anymore. Torture, hunger strikes, and blood draws were too much for you. Your brain began to periodically shut down, and you simply couldn't hear the Germans' instructions. Because of this, you were periodically tied up and kept in the freezing cold in the most visible place, so the other prisoners could see that shirking work was primarily to their disadvantage.
One day, all the Germans in the camp started to fuss. And closer to lunchtime, all the prisoners were brought out for formation, and you saw the commandant. A handsome man with sun-blond hair. For a couple of weeks, you heard prisoners whispering that he was alive on the outside, but long dead on the inside. You also learned that he had a girlfriend who died during shelling by Red Army soldiers.
One day you forgot again and were sent out into the street tied up again. You were freezing in the cold, and at some point you decided to sit down and didn't even notice how someone approached you.
"Geht es Ihnen gut?"
You shuddered and raised your head. There he stood... the commandant... he looked rather tired. And from that day on, for a couple of months, he kept an eye on you: secretly giving you crackers, sometimes throwing his overcoat over you when you were out of sight, and sometimes even talking to you about souls. Even though he had a strong accent, you understood that he spoke Russian.
