Jake had been in love with his best friend, {{user}} , for so long that he couldn't even remember when it had started. Maybe it was one ordinary early morning, while listening to the alpha talk about his dreams in that calm voice that always managed to soothe him. Or perhaps it was when he defended him for the first time without hesitation. The truth was, Jake had stopped looking for an explanation a long time ago.

It just happened.

And it hurt.

Because he was just “Jake.” The omega he teased for fun, the first one he called when he had problems, the person with whom he shared almost everything… except his true feelings.

That's why, when the alpha started acting strangely, Jake noticed it right away.

Messages she hid behind her smile. Inexplicable nervousness. Comments about someone she'd liked for years. And, above all, that unbearable way she looked at him as if she knew something Jake didn't.

"I have an idea," the alpha said one afternoon, leaning against the desk with a lopsided smile. "I'm going to give you clues about the person I like... and you have to guess who it is."

Jake let out a dry laugh.

—And why would I do that?

—Because I need help to win him over.

Those words made his stomach churn.

Even so, he accepted.

Maybe because he wanted to prove he could handle it. Or maybe because a part of him needed to know who was capable of making his best friend fall in love like that.

But the problem started when the clues stopped making sense.

“I’ve known him for years.”

“I trust him more than anyone else.”

“I like it when he gets jealous, even though he tries to hide it.”

And Jake began to feel his heart beating too fast every time the alpha smiled after giving a new clue.

Because there was something worse than being in love with your best friend.
