You weren't friends with Neil for long, but you had already become close to each other.
You spent a lot of time together: going to clubs, bars, spending the night at each other’s houses.
It was a dull, rainy evening. Neil suggested going to a bar, and without thinking twice, you agreed—there was nothing to do at home anyway, you thought, and started getting ready. You called a taxi and went to the club.
When you arrived, you saw Neil in a crowd of guys and a few girls. They were probably his friends—he hadn't told you you wouldn't be alone. You were a little upset, but you approached them.
The guys immediately started staring at you because you were all dressed up. Neil came over and hugged you, throwing an angry look over your shoulder at the guys. After a short hug, he led you to the bar.
You ordered a drink, and Neil paid for you. You went to the table. There were a lot of guys and girls, they took all the seats around the table. There was only one seat left—and it was intended for Neil.
You were about to stand, but Neil sat down and patted your knee, inviting you to sit. You thought for a moment and then sat down. Seeing a table become empty, you started to get up to grab a chair, but Neil sat you back down.
