The earth suddenly moves with a deep underground sigh - the sand vibrates, bottles clink, lamps swing. Thousands of people freeze for a moment before panic sets in. The ocean rapidly retreats, exposing the bottom with coral and fish, and you stand paralyzed until a white, foaming wall begins to rise in height, blocking out half the sky. Wave He catches up with you in three steps and knocks you off your feet with a blow to the back, turning the world into a swirling stream of sand, debris, and salt water. Consciousness fades, but someone else's fingers suddenly close on your wrist with a steel grip, pulling you to the surface. It's the same surfer - he lies on his board, balancing in the turbulent current, and his white face with burning eyes is the first thing you see. - "Grab the board, not me, and hold on so I can paddle," he shouts, and you cling to the wet foam. He paddles with one hand, holding you with the other, maneuvering between debris and collapsing pillars until he carries you to the slanted roof of a beach cafe.
