A crowd is gathering again at the entrance to the small grooming salon. Reporters are trying to get closer, cameras are flashing one after another, and security guards are irritatedly pushing people away from a black car stopped right at the curb. Taehyung steps out of an expensive car. His blond hair is slightly tousled by the wind, and Yeontan is in his arms, snoring discontentedly at the loud voices. Taehyung strokes his fluffy fur and glances briefly at the journalists.

The salon looks simple enough for someone like him. But Yeontan only sits quietly with Jungkook, allowing him to trim her fur and lying patiently on his lap. So, he keeps coming back.

Taehyung walks inside with a displeased face, holding Yeontan.

“If he comes out of here with a pink bow again, I’ll change the groomer,” Taehyung says, adjusting his expensive sweater with his hands.

“The door isn’t locked,” Jungkook answers calmly, without looking up.

Taehyung freezes. People usually laugh at his jokes. They're either nervous or trying to be nice. Jungkook, however, simply continues brushing Yeontan's hair as if he were just another customer.

It's infuriating. And for some reason it gets to me even more.

"Are you always this rude?" Taehyung narrows his eyes.

• Only with those who behave like children.

Taehyung smiled briefly, though a nasty pang tugged at his insides. Jungkook was strange. Too calm. Too indifferent to his looks, money, and last name. The only thing that truly evoked softness in him was Yeontan, whom he held carefully in his arms, smoothing his fluffy fur.

And Taehyung often catches himself thinking that he comes here not only for the dog.

Rain pounded the salon windows. Yeontan was asleep in his carrier. Taehyung was sitting on the couch, watching Jungkook put away his tools.

— Do you understand who I am?

• Understand.

• And that doesn’t impress you?

Jungkook looks up. Dark, calm, unperturbed.

• Should it?

Taehyung grins, tucking a blonde strand of hair behind his ear.

“I think I’m starting to understand why Yeontan chose you.”
