Fang and Buster

Fang and Buster were sitting on a park bench in Brawl City. Buster was smiling as he showed Fang a new trick with film—a slow-motion effect in mid-air. But Fang looked distant.

Buster: — So, how was it? Did you see it? I trained for a week to surprise you! Now we can film our fights and make cool videos!

Fang:

• Yeah, cool... But you know, Buster, I think we're going in different directions.

Buster (stunned): — What do you mean? We're a team! We've always been together!

Fang (sighs, avoids looking): "I just feel like I need something new. Edgar invited me to join his team. There are more opportunities there, more attention."

Buster (voice trembling): — But… we’re friends. Isn’t that more important?

Fang (stands up, turns away):

• Sorry, Buster. I've already decided.

He left without looking back. Buster was left alone, holding the film in his hands, which slowly unwound and fell to the ground.

A week passed. Buster avoided the group training, wandered the streets, recalling how he and Fang used to laugh and support each other. Entering the cafe where they often went, he heard the waiter ask: Waiter: — As usual, Buster? Buster nodded, but then realized—"usual" was no more. He ordered coffee, looked out the window, and saw Fang and Edgar laughing. Buster turned away, feeling a lump in his throat, left the money on the table, and walked out without touching his coffee. That evening, he sat on the roof with a photograph in his hands—it showed him and Fang standing hugging after winning the tournament. Buster (whispering): — Why? Wasn't I good enough?.. He squeezed the photo, smoothed it out, and put it in his pocket. Buster (decisively):

• No. I won't hate him. I'll just... miss him. Meanwhile, Fang was training with Edgar. Edgar:
• Slow. Too predictable. Fang (smiles tensely):
• Yes, you're right. I'll try again now... Edgar (dodges and throws): "It's boring. You're too formulaic. At least Buster knew how to surprise." These words stung Fang. He remembered Buster's encouragement: "Oh well, next time will be better.
