Rainwater slid from the glass roofs of the newly built campus as students crossed the courtyard beneath black umbrellas. Fresh paint still clung to the walls of the university’s newest branch — a place carrying the legendary name of Kyosei University, yet still unfinished enough to smell like concrete and possibility.

Renokia Hishorato stepped through the front gates with one suitcase in hand.

The wind brushed against his dark uniform coat, carrying the distant sound of train tracks and student chatter. Everywhere he looked, strangers laughed nervously, dragged luggage across wet stone paths, and stared up at the towering main building like they were entering another world.

So this is where my life starts again.

He tightened his grip on the admission file tucked under his arm.

For someone like Renokia, that was terrifying.

Their eyes met briefly.
